AFLAC Short Term Disability Policy

So, I've had AFLAC for about 3 years now through work. I"m currently on maternity leave because I am expecting twins in the next 3 weeks. I turned in my paperwork for short term disability and they came back saying that they needed more info because being high risk with twins wasn't enough. This is the first time I've experienced a "no" response from them. My doctor also noted that I had thyroid antibodies and have to have non-stress tests twice a week but still no dice. Has anyone else experienced this? My rep, doctor and I are at a loss. Thank you!

What can I do next?

My husband has sold Aflac for 11 years. It sounds like they are not denying you, they need more info which is typical. Get the required info from the doc and you should be ok. Call Aflac directly and ask them what the problem is. They are very good at customer serice and will let you know exactly what they need. Good luck and VERY smart for getting Aflac!!! Oh, and congrats on the babies too! (with twins you should add the accident plan! :o) lol)

Read the policy thoroughly: do they cover high risk maternity? Many policies have more exclusions than than covered events.

I consider myself an amateur expert on Aflac since I have dealt with them for the last 7 years, through this pregnancy and my last. Because you have only been with them three years you are only eligible for short term disability if you are unable to go to work because of being disabled through pregnancy. SO if you have your doctor explain in a lengthy doctor's note why you are disabled (i.e. the specific reasons you are high risk with twins and all) and unable to go to work because of those reasons you should receive the $ from Aflac.
Good luck! Your aflac salesrep that signed you up should have helped you navigate through this, but mine is excellent and he or I can help you anytime you need it. Just send me a message.
Congrats on your twin blessing!~

Talk to your Aflac rep and have them go to bat for you.

I didn't know that maternity was covered under AFLAC...We don't have it. My husband has a desk job so it's never been questioned.

I would look at your plan and see what it covers - talk to you AFLAC rep and find out what specifically they are looking for - what key words are they missing or what medical codes are they missing that would indicate it's not covered? TALK WITH THEM....
