Hello everyone! I'm moving to Portland in about a week or so, and I'm desperately trying to find a nice, learning-focused daycare that is not outrageously priced. I've lived in Las Vegas and Bend, OR during the last 3 years, and a normal weekly cost is around $125-$175 for 5 full-time days a week for a 3-year-old. I'm trying to find something in that range, but so far everything I've called in Portland has been at least $225 or more a week! My new job is downtown near the Broadway Bridge and I'm hoping to find something near there, but would be thankful for any location if the cost and quality are right! Does anyone have any ideas?

What can I do next?

As a teacher, I get to hear the scoop on lots of daycares/preschools. Two that are very good and not as expensive as many are: Discoveryland pre-school on 60th and SE Stark and Tucker Maxon pre-school on 28th and Holgate.

I would look into a good preschool. I only know of two on the Eastside--Alameda Mont. and Tucker-Maxon School. Tucker is awesome, but there is probably already a waiting list for this years preschool. It is $550 I believe for the month, goes from 9-1 and then you can enroll in after care. They are learning focus (especially social learning like how to wait your turn) and even offer PE classes and after school sports and piano at your daughters age right on campus.

if you are in SE our rates are now $800 a month for 2-3 and might be cheaper after that. Creative Minds Learning Center (they have a couple of locations. They are terrific and very Porltand philosophy teaching and center style.

Creative minds is the best in Portland. They have been around since 1997 and have an excellent reputation. A second generation of children from our family is attending and we couldn't be happier!

While it is not near dowtown, I will tell you that the preschool my 3yr old attends is fantastic, it is $700/month, and worth everypenny. Since you are new to the area I will let you know that things closer downtown, and on the west side of PDX tend to be a bit more expensive. HIs school is called Creative MInds Learning center, and they run a toddler program, starting at 2yrs all the way to private all day kindergarten. they have 2 locations open now, and are working on their 3rd to be opened soon. If nothing else you should check them out!
Good luck, ad welcome to the NW!!
