Advice on Treatment of Keloid Scar from Cesarean

Apparently I have a keloid scar from my first c-sec. I'm going in for c-sec #2 in a few months and figure the next one is bound to be just as bad or worse. I just found out what this was today at my doc appt. I guess some people are just genetically prone to getting them, while the majority of people's scars just heal and go away over time. If you have/had one - if you have any advice on treatments please send - would like to have a plan going into #2 because I think it will our last kiddo! Thank you!

Ask your doctor to inject Kenalog into the scar during the C-section. It worked wonders for me. It is a steroid that prevents the scar from thickening.

A few things.

1. NAET.com for allergy eliminations.

2. Naturopathic doctor/herbalist.

3. Accupuncture

4. It could also be an energy field problem, which is very normal in the world. That would be a satellite issue.

I would try everything natural and worry about the satellite energy field later.

Be well.

When I have my second c/s the doctor removed the scar and used staples instead of stitches. The scar isn't nearly as bad this time and seems to be improving with time. I cannot remember for the life of me if they did the injection or not - I think they did.

Hi! I had a large keloid scar from my first c-section, and my doctor was able to make my second one smaller by injecting something into the scar right after he stapled me up the second time. I still have a keloid, but it is much smaller. Ask your doctor.

I have the same problem with my skin. Asians and African Americans are more prone to having keloids after a deep cut or surgical procedures. Ask your OB about injecting you with kenalog after the c/section this does not make the keloid disappear altogether, but significantly reduces it so it isn't too noticeable. You won't feel the injection since he/she would be doing it while you're numb. Ob's can and will do it if you ask them and express to them how concerned you are about the keloid. They can also do it post-op as a follow up but they do it twice, usually. On the C/s day and later on in the office. But inquire with your ob now. Hope this helps. Congrats on your second baby!

Hi N.,

My sister and I both have a keloid scar from C-sections. With my sister, I think her Dr. removed the scar tissue from her 1st C-section and made it look nicer when she was having her 2nd C-section. The Dr. also stitched up her 2nd C-section incision differently, so as not to develop a keloid scar.

Knowing that I'm genetically prone to keloid scars, I told my OB. She didn't know how to do the stitches, so she injected the incision site with a steroid at the time of my C-section to prevent a keloid scar. I still developed one anyway. My Dr. said I could get another steroid injection in the scar to get rid of the keloid scar. Your OB or a dermatologist can do the injection.

Hope this is helpful.

I've had 3 C-sections. The first one I developed a keloid. Asians are susceptible to keloids, but I also didn't rest and started exercising (doing sit ups) at 5 weeks, instead of waiting after 6 week plus. My baby was also very big and heavy (9lbs 6oz). My doctor scolded me for being too impatient. SHe removed the keloid at the start of my 2nd c-section and I promised to listen to orders this time. (my 2nd was breeched and was born 2 weeks earlier at 8lbs 10 oz) This time I rested the entire 6 weeks, started walking and didn't start doing sit ups until 8 weeks. My scar turned out to be a beautiful line. My 3rd c-section a new doctor removed my sterile strips at 6 weeks, before it was ready to come off by its self. Now my line is crooked, but still thin without keloid because I rested as ordered. Massaging the scar after the sterile strips fall off would help too. good luck
