Advice on Purchasing a Carpet Cleaner
I was thinking of purchasing a carpet cleaner (from maybe Walmart - a bissell or Hoover) one that does deep carpet cleaning. I have two little ones and a large dog that dirty up the carpet quite nicely. I am looking for a cheaper route than like a Stanley Steamer. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a good carpet cleaner.

I have the Bissell Pro Heat 2X and it is amazing! I got it from Walmart, so they should have it there!

I highly recommend checking out epinions.com reviews before you buy one. We had a Bissell Proheat steam cleaner and it was a total piece of junk. It leaked water and concentrated soap everywhere. I fought with Bissell so much that they sent me a refurbished one to replace it. It was also a piece of junk. I've been very happy with renting the Rug Doctors at the grocery store. They do a great job and you don't have to store it. Good luck!

V.,
I have a Bissell Pro-Heat Turbo. I bought it at Walmart several yrs ago. I love it. I have 3 kids and a large dog and it works great to get all the messes up off my rugs. I also have a Hoover hard floor cleaner that I love too. In my experience both brands have been very good. You might also want to check out Costco (if you belong) I have seen good deals on Carpet/Steam cleaners there in the past.
Good Luck.

We like our Bissell ProHeat. I loaned it to my SIL and it did wonders on the carpet when she moved into a new place.

I have the Bissell ProHeat 2x and absolutely love it! I don't like putting lots of chemicals on the floor, and it has a setting so that I'm just using the hot water, which is great, and dries quickly. (it takes a lot to really get all of the chemicals out of carpets-my husband used to clean them and they'd never use chemicals; there was actually a lot already in the carpet from where people would clean spots with a foam spray and the vacuum didn't pick it all up.) It's picked up more dirt than we ever imagined! We have two dogs though, and used to have company over constantly, and never really used a cleaner, only a vacuum. Our carpets look great though, and it's really easy to use and clean. I highly recommend it!

I have the Hoover from walmart and love it, it works great. You may want to play with the solvent you use, my boss found this random generic at big lots that is AWESOME, but I can't find it anywhere. Also, for really bad stains, I pretreat with a standard carpet stain cleaner. Good luck.

I'm not sure about the Hoover or a Bissel but I do know that Rug Doctor machines are SUPERB!! They are pricey at about $500.00 each but it is WELL worth the investment with kids and dogs. You can purchase one at Rug Doctor's website:
www.rugdoctor.com. They usually come with Upholstery tools to so you can steam clean your furniture! Great for the car as well. You then can purchase the shampoo at any grocery store that rents them.
Good Luck!
