It's a cute name! I think Addie would be a cute nickname for it. I've heard the name before, but I don't personally know anyone who has it. I don't think it's that common, at least not like Sarah, or Abigail, or Hannah, etc... If you like the name then go for it! :)

popular shows will always generate a boom of the names used or the stars's names.
It's best to avoid those types, speaking as one of 23 Debras in my educational career.
Although it didn't make the top 20 last year.

My husband and I are trying for a baby, and had planned to name her Addison. My friend got pregnant before I did, and named her daughter Addison...so I had to choose a different name for that reason...I'm not pregnant yet, and could very well have a boy, so it's a moot point...BUT...Addison is VERY popular. I was in line at a concession stand at our local kid's park and heard Addison twice...and at Sea World last week I met 3 Addison's....So...it definitely won't be a unique name for long...

my daughter was born march 2005 and her name is addison. at that time, it was like 78th out of 100 most popular names and i didn't know anyone with that name. now it seems like everywhere we go, there is an addison or addie. the name is in the top 20 now. i wanted her to have somewhat of a unique name and now i am kind of disappointed that it really isn't. my name is L. and there were never any other L.'s in my school. i like having a unique name. ultimately, you just have to go with what you like. good luck!

When we did a list of names, Addison was one of the names on it. I marked it off for two reasons. First, it has become very popular because of the Grey's Anatomy character and second, for family reasons (the nick would be Addie--long story). I liked the name, but I didn't love it, if I had, I would have had it on my short list and my daughter might have a different name. I agree with others here, if you LOVE the name, don't worry about whether or not other kids might have it. And, like someone else suggested, change up the spelling or pick a really cute middle name that you could add on if you wanted to make it a bit different. I know someone that picked Whitney when it was fairly popular and her daughter goes by Whitney Rose versus just the first name. My daughter will probably shoot us some day for giving her a first name with 9 letters, but we loved the name and the spelling.
