Hi all! I am currently living in te Dallas/Ft. Worth area. My husband has an interview with Garmin and I was wondering if anyone is familiar with the company?? What do you have to say about the way they treat their employees? This is a major move for us and I want to make sure my husband is happy before we pack up our house, with 2 kids, leave our friends and move. Also, any suggestions on good places around the area to raise children? We are both from small towns and would prefer not to raise our children in the city. We want a great education for them. This is especially important to me, as I am a former teacher and will probably go back to work when they are in school. Thanks for any help you can give!!

What can I do next?

I've heard good things about Garmin.
I just wanted to say that Olathe is not a small town by any means. While the pp is correct in saying they have about every amenity you could think of, it is quite large and continues to grow. I'd shoot more for Paola which is further south. Gardner is nice too but it is expanding and I would worry that it wouldn't stay small for long.
Good Luck!

Hi S.,

My husband would LOVE to work at Garmin so your husband is lucky he has an interview! Olathe is a really nice place, too. We live 3 minutes from Garmin and there are some GREAT neighborhoods in the area. Olathe schools are rated extremely high as well. Good luck.

hi - i've heard Garmin is a wonderful place to work and several friends of mine who work there say they tend to be very understanding towards family issues ( i.e. sick children). I currently live in Gardner, about 10- 15 mins from Garmin, and our town is fairly small, although growing quickly. there are several new houses being built and many older ones for sale. its a great place for kids, and there are several schools. check out www.gardnerkansas.gov to learn more. congtrats and good luck!

I have heard Garmin is a wonderful company. My really good friend works there and loves it. I have met other individuals there and they really enjoy working there. It is in the Olathe School district which is one of the best disticts to be in. Top-Notch! I actually live in Olathe, about 5 min from Garmin and I would work there if I could, but I love my current job!!! =)

Olathe is not a real busy "city" but they have every amenity you could think of having. Great place to raise children! We have a 2 1/2 yr old and we couldn't be happier!

S.,

Congratulations Garmin is an outstanding company in the Kansas City area. The main campus is located in Johnson Country in the Olathe School district. Olathe is known for its outstanding schools and Johnson County has probably the best tax base in Kansas.

My husband and I have a good friend that works for them and they have been a fantastic company to him for the last 15-20 years. Our friend works in the design department and has been with the company from the very begining. I think he said that there is an employee stock program. It was similar to my company's ESOP and Profit sharing program. He took us on a tour of their new building about three years ago. The campus is amazing and continues to
grow.

Since they design aviation guidance systems it is a high security building. I believe that anything that involves the FAA requires a background check and all the complnents must be assembled in the USA. I know some of the consumer and street based units are manufactured in Taiwan. The high end avaition stuff is all manufactured on site, if I remember correctly.

Best wishes for your husbands interview!!
