Advice on Ceramic Cookware?

The idea of ceramic cookware appeals to me, but I don't know anyone who has used it. I am looking into the Ceramcor Xtrema line of cookware. I have also seen Martha Stewart's Eco cookware, but that just has a ceramic coating and I am concerned about it wearing off. Does anyone have experience using ceramic cookware, and if so can you please share the benefits/drawbacks you have experienced?

Thanks!

What can I do next?

Have you looked at Pampered Chef? They have excellent quality. I remember them having stoneware. I can't remember specifically seeing ceramic....but you should look into them. The stoneware is amazing.

I'm sorry I'm not familiar with the lines you are looking at, but I have a Mario Batali stock pot and I love it. I also have a little saucepan that is a hand-me-down from my mom and it's been around forever - probably as old as I am and it's in really good shape.

Pros: Heats evenly, rarely sticks, easy to clean, no worries about leaching anything into the food.

Cons: Handles can get hot so make sure that you have a potholder handy and turn the handles in so little hands can't grab them, they are heavy, slower to heat, can be pretty expensive.

They are a really good investment for your kitchen but can't replace pots for boiling pasta and I prefer non-stick fry pans for eggs. I wish I had more for my kitchen! Good luck!

I would avoid the Martha Stewart stuff. I've had problems with some of the stuff I bought at Macy's from her line (one porcelain-enamel coated pot and a cast iron pot). I found out later that all of her products are made in China, and I became very concerned about potential lead in the pots (especially after I had chipping in the pots' finish). If you are concerned about the ceramic wearing off, I would avoid the line. My enamel pot chipped within about 10 uses.

I'm very interested in the Mercola Healthy Chef Cookware sold on mercola.com. It comes in a 16 piece set which is great, with utensils & a healthy cookbook. It's a little pricey but totally worth it since most cookware is not cheap and this has a warranty (along with silicone covers over the handles). Go to the website and find it in the products section at the top. Hope this helps & good luck! ;)
