Advice Needed for Baby Who Is Vomiting.

Over the last three days, my 8 month old baby has started vomiting for no good reason. His diet has been normal, nothing out of the ordinary has happened to him. His bahavior is pretty normal and he doesn't have a fever. The only other thing that is out of the ordinary is that he is rejecting solid foods. He only wants to nurse. He has been on solids for a few months now and hasn't had any problems until now.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this? He seems perfectly healthy besides the vomiting. I am not sure that he needs to see a doctor yet ... I feel that I should wait and see if it stops.
Any advice would be great! Thanks!

What can I do next?

Think back at everything that you have been feeding him. He could have gotten food poisening. My dear friend was JUST going through this same exact thing. also, the flu is going around. call you doctor, but there is a good chance it could be the food (was bad, too old etc) and that is why he is rejecting it also.

I hope he gets better soon!

After reading the other womens responses, the heat!! and heat stroke makes you sick (vomit) too, my son got heat stroke from the 4th of July and was rather exhausted and his ezcema flared up so bad the worse ever from the past 1 1/2 years. So the heat can mess up a little one, and not even be in the sun. My 4mos got heat rash the same day too.

But back to the vomit, my dd has been spitting up the past 2 days which is soooooo unlike her. She screams for a few mins I try to settle her and puke. and not just once several times in a row before she stops then the next feeding same thing, ugh! I'm only giving her 5-6 oz which is less then usually 7-8 oz I'm hopping a bug is just trying to get through her system. And no fever either.

I would just call an advice nurse too, they are usually very helpful.
I would really worry if his temperment changes, like he is listless or unresponsive, or just not himself.
Good luck hope he is better soon!

Hey there - I have had the opposite happening with my son. My son hasn't been eating very much. I looked to see your location and you are from Eugene - which is where I am. My first thought is the Heat. Since we had that yucky heat wave...maybe your son was having a reaction to the food from a couple of days ago. Also, have you changed the types of solids that you are feeding him? He could be allergic or the food is just not settling very well. I still think it might be the heat. But, I don't know. Maybe you should take him to the doctor to find out what the real reason of him Vomiting. Good luck.

What you're experiencing is quite common, actually. My friend is having the same issue.

Ask your doctor about piloric stenosis. I DOUBT this is what your child has, but try it. It is a valve that blocks absorption into the stomach, causing regurgitation.

Try smaller feedings.

Try holding your child in front of you by his armpits. This lets his lower body drop, expanding his intestines, causing burping, and relief.

Try holding him face down in your arm with your L.H. (so he is facing Left in respect to your body as you are looking down at him) and patting his back with your R.H. in a rhythmic beat as you shift from one foot to the other in the same rhythmic beat; almost like a Hawaiian dance with your feet.

Try Gripe Water.

Hope some of this helps!

Something is upsetting his stomach. Perhaps a stomach flu bug or an allergy. My granddaughter vomited when her mother switched from nursing to a formula containing milk products. She was tested and found to be allergic to milk. The solution was to give her the rather expensive non-dairy formula and she stopped vomiting.

I fairly frequently feel nauseous and have found that I've eaten something to which I'm allergic. I have numerous food allergies. When I'm feeling sick I stop eating whatever I think made me sick to see if I feel better. Then, later, I try to food again and if I feel sick again I add that food to my list of foods to stay away from.

I didn't have much of an appetite in that really hot weather, either. I agree that could be causing your son to vomit.

You could call the pediatrician's office. It's possible that this is a bug going around and they have seen other babies with the same symptom. They would then advise you on what you can do.

Maybe ask your childs doctor about acid reflux. My baby is quite a bit younger but had a problem where she was vomiting for no reason at all and her problem is acid reflux. Good luck, hope the problem will clear up soon. :)

When my daughter was this age she would throw up for about a week straight with no fever and nothing else that would show signs of being sick. I asked the doctor about it and he said that there was no reason for it either, but then I finally made the connection. She was teething. Every time a new tooth would start coming she would begin again and this happened for her first set of teeth. This may not be what you baby is doing but it is worth checking. The doctor said that it is not proven that it is connected, but she also didn't want to eat solids during this time either. If you think this maybe the problem trying teething tablets and lots of fluids. Good luck!
