Advice for Repairing Cavities for 2 Year Old

You are smart to start him on the dentist this early. My now fifteen year old had 13 cavities before he was 4. I was raised with good dental habits, strong teeth, regular dental checkups, etc so we brushed his teeth everytime he ate from the time they started coming in. His problem was that his baby teeth were coming in with no enamel. This is nobody's fault and just bad luck. His adult teeth are fine, came in with the enamel and we put the sealants on them. Thank God, I had dental insurance during this time.
My other two children did not have this problem.

I took him to a pediatric dental practice. I got this dentist's name from my regular dentist. This is where he took his son..... This dentist was wonderful. My son had to have all those filings plus 4 crowns. He was never sedated but it was not easy going either. My son was a champ through the whole thing. His teeth are beautiful and we don't have any problems now. Unfortunately, this doctor is retired and I didn't like his partner (not patient enough with the children for my standards and not nearly as talented) so I don't want to refer this practice to you. (I have heard that they have lost a lot of business since the main partner's retirement). I would say go by referrals, visit different practices and follow your gut on the sedation. I personally don't think it necessary, although all children are different. You don't want your son to hate the dentist but I believe that if you find the right practice, he will be fine. Remember all those toys we got back when we were kids at the dentist?? they still do that plus have video games, cartoons, etc. lots of catering. My son loved going even though he knew he was in for more than a cleaning. (He usually got an extra toy with filings and I would take him out to McDonald's or Burger King or ice cream afterwards. The kind of reward I knew he would enjoy.) Good Luck.

my daughter had cavities filled when she was 4. the dentist we went to gave her a small amount of gas - just to relax her. she was not out. everything went great. she came out loving her dentist. he told her all kinds of funny things. i'm not sure what area you are in but this was at Imagix in Norcross on peachtree parkway. she's almost 7 now. we still go there and she has no fear of the dentist.

I understand your concern- But it really is a good idea to get the cavities fixed while they are small and not risk that they would get bigger and need a major procedure done on them latter. Also, start working on a Brushing teeth routine 2 or 3 times a day.
I have 6 children and two of them had to have dental work done before they were 4 years old. Our first child and now our last.
We used sedation for Jonathan who was 17 months old- and it was safe, he was not tramatized, and the dentist was able to work in his mouth quickly and safely.
Stephen, my youngest, is 7 years old. He has needed to have some major dental work done. He has no fear about going to the dentist office and will even become friends with the staff, - But he has severe panic attacks when they start to do any procedures in his mouth. So, I had to find a dentist that could work in his mouth.
When we moved to GA last summer, I began searching for the "right dentist" I found one that I will highly recommend! He and his staff are very good with Small children. Most children dentist do not allow parents to accompany thier child back- they make them stay in the lobby.
Dr Kwon office is set-up so that he does let parents go back to the dentist chair and stay with your child if you choose to. Dr Kwon gave us several options for getting the dental work done in my childs mouth. He also was very helpful in working out a payment method that was easy on our budget.
