Advice for Breech Baby at 35 Weeks

I am pregnant with my second baby and the baby is currently breech - I am almost 35 weeks. I desperately want to have a vaginal child birth. My doctor says the baby still can turn, but I am getting nervous as time goes on. Any advice, suggestions or similar stories to share would be greatly appreciated.

There is a great class this weekend on breech birth through Renaissance Midwifery in Oakland. The website is renaissancemidwifery.com

My friend put headphones to the baby's head and played music loudly--which caused the baby to turn away from it! I'm sure midwives have lots of ideas about this, you could consult 1. I bet mothering.com has ideas too if you search their forums.

I was told with my third child that the baby was breech. Several weeks before my due date the doctor decided that he wanted to try and turn the baby, so I was to go to the hospital to have this done. I was not looking forward to it as some of my friends had told me it would be sort of painful. The doctor pulled out the ultrasound machine to take a look at the baby's position before they started the procedure and wouldn't you know it, he had turned on his own!

Hi C.,
My Baby was breech until 38 weeks. On the ultrasound it looked like he was standing at attention. I guess I was so busy with the arrival that I didn't worry, and he turned around a few days before delivery. The thing that you have to realize is, what will be will be - so don't worry. Relax, that is the best advice I can give. When your body is calm your baby can feel it and will feel relaxed too. I know people will give you advice on how to move him into the correct position but the best thing is to keep you stress level low. He will be fine. Get as much sleep as you can!!!!
Good Luck,

Hi C.,

Will you consider acupuncture and moxa? It does wonders!

There is an acupuncture school and clinic in san jose called five branches. You can try it there...ask for rounds and the acupuncturist will do your treament. :) and the best thing is, your first visit is free!!

I'm an NICU RN in acupuncture school and am amazed at all the wonderful things acupuncture can do! hope you are open to giving it a try!

Best of luck to you and your baby!

I had my second VBAC last year and had a version done since my son was breech. It was painless, we watched the whole thing on the ultrasound, and it took all of 30 seconds (maybe an hour total at the hospital). Hope this helps.

Acupuncture helped me a lot! I went to a woman in SF who specialized in fertility & pregnancy. Her name is Jennifer Ashby at the Lotus Center on Valencia Street (you can yelp her). She is amazing!!!

Congratulations on your pregnancy. I had the same experience..However I was told that if the baby hadn't flipped by week 35, it probably wouldn't (and she ultimately didn't...). There is a procedure to have the baby manually flipped, which we opted not to do. We tried some of the wives' tales, which didn't work either. I had really wanted a vaginal birth but gave in and remember I just wanted a safe delivery for my baby. We had a scheduled C section and I've got a beautiful little girl.
good luck!

Hi C.,
Congratulations on your upcoming delivery! I don't know if this helps, but my oldest was sideways until a week before she was born. She finally turned head down at 37 weeks. BUT the point of my story is really - my doctor told me that if she didn't turn either head or feet down, I'd have to have a c-section. So that makes me think that even if your baby is breech, you can still have a natural delivery. It is a little riskier, but the baby will fit, and if you're going to be at a good hospital, I don't see why you couldn't at least try to deliver breech rather than having a c-section if that's what you prefer? Of course if the baby seems stressed out and you end up having to have a c-section, as long as you end up with a healthy baby, who cares how he or she is delivered, right? At the end of the day, the whole point is a happy and healthy mommy and baby!

Good luck with everything, please let us know what happens!! =)
