Advice About Tubal ligation.....Roper Downtown as Compared to Roper St Francis

I had a tubal ligation after my second child at the age of 27. I went ahead with the procedure after birthing naturally because I felt then that I didn't want anymore kids and the price of daycare for 2 young kids is ridiculous! Now I am 29 and I only slightly regret that decision because sometimes I think I want another child but my now 2 year old destroys all those feelings instantly! LOL, but for me I am glad I made that decision. After I gave birth a couple of hours later they shipped me off to surgery and I woke up and it was over. But when I got home I did feel some discomfort in that area but it was over in like a day or 2. Good luck!

I am 25 years old and I had my tubes tied after I had my second child (c-section). I thought for sure that 2 kids was all I wanted, but now I hate myself for getting my tubes tied. I would not get your tubes tied unless you know for sure that is what you want.

I had a tubal done after my last child( 18 months ago). I now tell everyone I know Not to have their tubal right after. I have talked to so many ladies and havefound out that it is 10 times worse if you do it right after having the baby. I take pain very well, I have my girl completely natural with no problem. But The tubal was horrible. I am told that if you wait it is not as painful and heals alot faster.
And If he has it done, it is an out patient. He is home the same day.

I am 32 and I had a tubal ligation when I had my c-section 2005.I wish some one warned me about it.I have the worst menstrual cramps,very havey flow and bad weight gain.I really wish I had not gotten it done!Men have it alot easier as usual.
Just to give you the best advice anyone ever gave me about the c-section:)Just as soon as you can about 3 to 4 hours after you have the baby.Get up and walk!!The longer you stay in that bed the worse you will feel.I had no pain or problums at all with the c-section.Godd luck and bestwishes.-V

I would go for the tubal ligation since they are already in there... I have not personally had this done, so someone else may give you better advice, but it seems to make since. My husband had a vescectomy after our third which was not a bad, but it did require several days off work, scheduling, etc...
We have loved the freedom of not having to worry about birth control. It is a little sad at first, knowing that it is a little more permanent, but after I got over it, we have loved it.

I"m so glad you asked this question. I am having the exact same dilemma except I will be delivering vaginally and not c-section. I am 26 pregnant with 4th due in december. I have a 7, 6, and 13 month old. I will be delivering in St. Francis but I heard that if you do the tubal, the delivery would be at Roper. I delievered my first child at Roper and third child at St. Francis, and I prefer St. Francis over any hospital. It was the best experience ever for me and I loved the nurses. My doctor was the same, so the hospital was the only difference.
I think after reading the responses, I might just go ahead and let my hubby do it lol. I'm sure he will enjoy a few days off from work.

I had a tubal after my 2nd child 4 years ago after a C-section. I REGRET ever doing it! I've had nothing but problems since! I've had hormonal problems, hot flashes, extremely heavy bleeding, cramping, and my periods can last up to 11 days plus sometimes I've have my period every two weeks. I had wished that I had never done it. Now I'm probably going to have a procedure called Novasure. Also, I had my first pap come back questionable (probably not related, but not sure) and I need to have a biopsy.

So as you can tell, I was not thrilled with my results. Yes, it's nice not worrying about pregnancy. But I wish that my husband had a vasectomy instead.

It's your decision, but I wish you luck! If you do choose to have one, I really don't think it will cause you additional pain or time to recover from your C-section. At least I didn't have any problems from that aspect.

I had a TL right after the delivery of my last child. I am an older mom. I had my 2 children 35+. I have not had any complications, changes in menstral cycle etc. Maybe everyone is different.

you need to talk to your doc., but i know that St. Francis won't do a tubal. they are a catholic hospital, they wont use any kind of birth control. i had my last section there and they were great!!! My husband then had a vastectomy 6 months later, he is a big wimp (haha, arn't they all?) and he didn't complain at all. just gave him a beer and some frozen peas and a new set of golf clubs and he was fine. hope this helps. You are sounding like me before our fifth child was born... When I had my twins (#3&4) back in 2003 I loved my Ob, he delivered #1 & 2 also, he said that he recomended the vasectomy because there are no lasting effects to the man, just the weekend pain from the procedure. Vs. women who have heavier periods, more cramping, & menopause. Needless to say we moved to NC from Florida and got pregnant with #5 and in talking to the OB up here he said you'll be open anyway so just have a tubal. I did it and am experiencing heavier periods, etc...... I am taking the pill to control my cycle because I was having it every two weeks. It seemed the right thing to do since I was having the c-section but I regret that decision now. I urge you to send your husband in and just be done with it. Good Luck! I had mine done back in Feb of this year and haven't had any problems with it what so ever. My youngest was born in May of 06 so I had plenty of time to think about it after he was born. It was a little painful right after with bad cramps and my tummy being being blown up for the OB to see but you'll be having the C/S so it's hard to say how you'll feel. I know I've heard that a lot of women experience bad hormonal changes and signs of early menopause but I haven't had any of those. I did how ever stay on the pill because I'm a total "B" when I'm not one it so I don't know if that has anything to do with keeping my hormones at bay now or not. And it is out patient surgery now days if you just have that done.

Can't help you with the hospitals cause I don't know anything about them.

I had a tubal after my 3rd child. I ended up waiting 8 weeks after her birth to do it(she was a vaginal birth). I would have had it the same day but my doc said that he wanted my body to heal from the trama of child birth first. But, in your situation you are having a c-section so as you said your belly will already be open. I have had no bad side effects from it at all. I actually have had lighter periods with less days(only 4-5 than my old 6-7). I was also up taking care of my kids hours after surgery. It was a great experience for me. I do not regret getting it done either. I would have 10 kids if they weren't so expensive these days!! LOL Plus, I don't think my hubby could handle anymore. I guess you can say we compromised and decided 3. My sister had her tubes tied during her c-section also and has had no problems. Everyone is different and you don't know what the outcome will be unless you have it done. On the other hand, if your hubby is considering a vasectomy let him due it. We go through enough, so why not let them have a few days of pain!! LOL My hubby would not get his done so I did and we are both happy about our decision. This is your call, but it is harder on women then men. The vasectomy is easier, procedure wise and healing wise. My hubby just had it done in January. I did not have a csection, so my doctor said that he wasn't putting my body through that, it's been through enough. Its your decision...

Hi K., I had my last baby on feb.16 at roper downtown because i had my tibes tided.I had a c-section and figured they were in there anyways. As for my periods yes the pain is not so nice,but my Dr. told me that my periods would be like before i ever went on the pill. So i know what i was in for. This month has been my second since my daughter was born and this one was so much better.I was heavy the first day ,but it got better the next day and only had it for 4 days.As for the hospital they were great with me.I can give the names of the nurses i had because they were great! I had no problems.I had really bad pms before i had my tubes tied.Now i don't have that at all. Good luck with the new baby and you can email if you any ?..

I had three births and one miscarriage. I too had a TL on my last child. For me I could not do one more pregnancy. My littlest and last one I was sick 8 mo out of 9 mo. Thru up everything from my toes. Other than not being able to have more children, my periods are horriable. Heavy and Heavy PMS. Worst than before. I've also become animic (my spelling is bad sorry!) But for sanity sake, it was the best thing I could do for myself. I know this may sound harsh, but I was not a happy pregnant women!
Also if your hubby gets the "V" done, and doesn't take the first time there could be the possibility of another child. Which in many cases is a blessing.

Congratulations on baby #4 on the way. I have not had a tubal, but did consider it and was scheduling to have one done when my 2nd daughter was born as I too was having a scheduled c-section. I talked to several daycare workers at my daughter's daycare who had either had one or had family members that had had one. I didn't hear anything good. I had some telling me that they had more bleeding at that time of the month, more pain and had even heard of some who ended up later on having to have a hysterectomy. My boss had it done after her 3rd child and about a year later had severe depression/anxiety problems that the doctor linked back to having her tubes tied. On the other hand, my sister-in-law had it done and she states that she hasn't had any problems. I researched some about this online and found out some of the syptoms I had been told by others, were true. Needless to say, I had the doctor mark it off my chart for having it done.

I am sure that it depends on each individual person and their body, but I wasn't going to take any chances. I started my monthly when I was 9 and have always had horrible, painful periods that lasted for 5-6 days. After my 1st daughter was born, it all changed. Now, I never know when it is going to start unless I keep up with it on my calendar. I never have any cramps, break outs or tender breasts. I just go to the bathroom and it is there and it usually only lasts about 3-3 1/2 days. It is wonderful. I surely didn't want to mess that up! My husband will have a vasectomy. We are deciding now if we are having a 3rd or not. I will be 35 this year, so we had better hurry up and make up our minds.

I considered the same thing and was advised against it. My husband volunteered to go. He said the thought od it was much worse than the actual surgery. No problems, no complaints. If he does go, remember to be careful until you get the all clear from your doctor. Also, I had a neighbor who had her tubes tied 3 times because she kept getting pregnant.

I had a tubal ligation with my 3rd child, who was a planned c-section. I decided it was simpler as part of one surgery than to have my husband have a separate one. I have had no problems. I had a lot of pain after the c-section, but I think that was all from the c-section and not the ligation. I would talk to your doctor about the pros and cons. For me, it didn't add any pain to that time and now I don't have to worry about birth control.
