Advice About Rash
I have an 11 month old girl. We have been very lucky with diaper rashes up until this point. The only time we see anything it is just a couple of bumps if she has sat in a diaper with a bowel movement for any length of time. It seems like lately her BM's have been more sneaky so she's had a few bumps here and there. My mother is the main source of care when my fiance' and I are working. The other day my mom talked me into putting a little fresh aloe on the little bumps. Well now it is very red and dry. I believe she had a little reaction to the aloe. We discontinued use immediately. I have been using burt's bees diaper ointment on it since but it remains. Does anyone have any better advice on the best care for this rash. I am so dissapointed that I caused it and want to do the best thing to relieve it. We do not use many things on her because we like to be as natural as possible.
Thank you!
K.
So What Happened?™
Thank you everyone for the advice. I ended up going to the doctors and we were prescribed something for a yeast infection rash. Well I just discovered last night that we have thrush. We are taking natural steps to eliminate it. Using Flora and looking into gentian violet. I can't understand what happened because we don't take antibiotics or almost any prescription medication. I am also taking the flora. I hope we can take care of this!!! UGH!

You should have her pediatrician evaluate this, it could be a yeast infection and need Nystatin cream. Often, bathing with a bit of baking soda helps also, but don't do that until the pediatrician evaluates.
Also, never put Aloe to a rash area, Desetin ointment would have been a better choice.
Good luck and hope she's feeling better.

you may want to try corn starch, it's not harmful and if you mix the powder in a bowl with water and make it pastey it will harden and dry like a mask. I did this when my daughter broke out with a rash on her face. good luck!

I really like the A&D Diaper Rash Ointment. My son usually doesn't get diaper rash but when he does we know a tooth is cutting through! Also, you can try letting your baby be without a diaper for a little bit. I've heard the fresh air really helps with diaper rash.

Hi K.-
My son had a rash from a very acidy BM and I cannot use zinc oxide on him as he is very sensitive to it and it burns his skin. I researched online and saw this:
Mix A&D (yellow ointment, not the one with zinc oxide) and pure cornstarch to make a thick paste. Put a good layer on the rash and by the next change it is so much better! It really worked well for my son and I didn't use anything else for a bad rash except this concoction. Good luck.

Hands down the best thing ever to prevent and heal diaper rash is "Bag Balm". It is used for cows utters. You can get it in the pet section at Walmart, or at Feed Store. It comes in a green square can. I had a maternity nurse in England and I used it on my baby. She called in a miracle cream because she had never seen anything work so well. It is perfectly safe for your baby. My son not once had diaper rash.
Good luck, S.

Hi,
Desitin worked really well for my children but put a coat of vaseline first because desitin is so hard to wipe off so when you bathe her and wipe the cream off it comes off easier. I havent had any rashes with my third child I been using this method since she was born and knock on wood it worked. Also check with your dr. I heard oatmeal baths are good too once a week but I am not sure of her age if its appropriate for her, just ask her dr. Good Luck!!!! J.

3 Words... Boudreaux's Butt Paste!!
It works well for a rash that won't go away. I use bag balm as well, for rashes that aren't that bad. My daughter had a really bad rash for about 5 days and nothing worked... I put some Boudreauxs on it and it started clearing up within the next diaper change!
Good luck!
