Adventure Time? Your Thoughts?

My 4 year old loves the adventure time cartoon. It is really funny but seems really inappropriate...it's funny because my whole reason for telling her no is more related to the fact that she started to have bad grammar. Which she ussually corrects me and other adults grammar, and in this show they use the english language in whatever way they see fit. But other than that its a bunch of fart humor, and jokes. Anywho shes watches tons of stuff people may find wrong for her age, like she loves romantic comedies and jurassic park (the 1st ones pg) and beetle juice, and she loves watching documentaries on the discovery channel about dinosaurs, animals, mummies, and even on the civil war with her grandpop (which can be far worse than any cartoon by the way) so I'm not super strict on what she sees or hears...but for some reason I just feel this show isn't good for her. Do any of your kids watch it?? IDK if I'm looking for other kids her age that watch it so I can let her watch it and not feel like a terrbile parent or if I'm looking for parents that hate it...lol...
btw like I said her grammar is good not mine, so don't judge me for my lack of it=) and my mispellings=)

What can I do next?

Once I actually got to see it, no way. Adenture Time and that stupid Gumball show (not sure if it is the same channel) are no-nos. Also the show Kick Buttkowski or whatever the name is. If I see it on, I make they change it. If they complain about not having anything else to watch--usually because Disney is another rerun--the TV goes off (YAY!!). My kids love watching the Discovery Channel and History channels though. I think there is a big difference in watching shows about how things happen, are made, or did happen even if it could be inappropriate for the age J. because it is something they can learn from. Luckily my 3 yr old is more a listener of TV than a wztcher. The girl is always on the go.
Letting your little one watch the show does not make you a terrible parent. J. seems a lot of shows out there now dumb things down way too much.

TOTALLY INAPPROPRIATE and I will NOT let M. 9 and 11 years watch it...sorry - but IF I see or hear it on the TV - they know I'll go psycho...

I agree with you about the other movies, etc. they may not be right for her - but she understands them and such...as long as she's not having nightmares from the violence - fine...I follow up with things like - we only use guns to defend ourselves, we don't hit, etc.

You are NOT a terrible parent. It's J. one of many shows I think totally suck and will NOT allow my kids to watch!!

My 9 year old watches it, and loves it. It is funny. It is far less violent than Tom and Jerry, which most of us grew up on...

My 9 and 5 year old watch it with my boyfriend. They think it is hilarious. I'm typically very strict about what they watch, but for some reason this show doesn't bother M.. My kids haven't had any bad behavior or anything from it. If they did, I would stop allowing them to watch it.

The show is horrible, but funny. I see where you're coming from, but 4 years old is probably too young for it. My oldest is 12 & he watches it with his father, but that's a whole different age group.

My daughter (6) and my husband watched it until I happened to see some of it one day. They were talking about killing someone- it went off right then. I think this show is totally inappropriate.

I am no saint, but my 6 year old triplets do not watch that or any shows that are rated TVY and up. TVY is for Youth starting at age 7. They watch Sponge Bob sometimes but even that is too much. We have become such a society that is desensitized to everything that even adults don't realize the problems with these things. Jurassic Park for a 4 year old isn't appropriate to M.. I wouldn't let my 6 year olds watch it because of the violence of graphic scenes with dinos eating people. Why take away from their innocense? It's going to be gone soon enough. My opinion is to keep them innocent for as long as possible. Let them be kids. Romantic comedies? No. Beetle Juice? Naw. Documentaries are different but I would see what's on so I'd watch it with them to explain things like bones and where they come from and why they're there and why they're digging them up. Civil War? Nope. Hubby is a huge Civil War buff but my kids don't need to see the dead bodies on the battle field, especially since their father has been to battle himself.

I have parent controls on our TVs. There are guidelines for a reason. J. because something says PG doesn't mean that as long as you're sitting there a 4 year old can watch it. It's reasonable to say the PG is for older children, especially if you look at where PG is on the ratings scale. I don't think it's a good idea to desensitize our children. Things should be shocking to a young children, not an every day occurrence of "Hey look, another dead body." It may seem like your 4 year old has it all figured out, but she doesn't. She's coming to her own conclusions of what's she's watching, a 4 year old conclusion. On top of that, when parents are allowing their young children to watch and listen to things beyond their age and go to school then they're passing that on to other children. I've had that problem with my triplets at their new school. They've come home saying things that they shouldn't even be privileged to... in kindergarten.

4 year olds should be watching preschool shows like Dora, Super Why (PBS), Word World, Team Umizoomi, Ni Hai, Kailan, etc.

Keep her little!
