We are already in our mid 30s but would still like a larger family; we have talked a little about adoption but don't know much about it. Seeking any info anyone could share!

What can I do next?

Hi! We adopted our first child in 2002 when we couldn't get pregnant for several years. We worked in Boise, ID with CASI Foundation for Children- A GREAT organization. We had our home study in February, got fingerprinted (the FBI has to do a criminal background check on all adoptive parents), and were on the adoption list March 1st! That just means the adoption agency is free to then show the letter you wrote and pictures of your life to all interested birthmothers. We "got the call" that we'd been chosen by a birthmother July 23rd, and our perfectly healthy son was born in Weiser, ID on July 27th. What a week! It probably cost us about $10,000 in 2002 for a domestic adoption (as opposed to an international adoption which does cost more). There is a $10,000 tax refund, though, so we end up getting the money back (I don't think it's $10,000 all at once the first year- I think it's spread out over a few years.) Feel free to email me privately if you like. I also DID get pregnant with our 2nd child and he's 2 now. We're now expecting #3! So, who knows but God how these things will go? :) ____@____.com

I KNOW MANY PEOPLE THAT HAVE ADAOPTED AND THEY HAVE BEEN SO HAPPY!! MY AUNT ADPOTED BOTH OF HER CHILDREN...THE FIRST WAS AN OPEN ADOPTION (WHEN HE WAS READY HE WAS SHOWN PICTURES OF HIM MOM AND HE KNOWS ABOUT HER BUT REALLY ISN'T INTERESTED IN BEING A FAMILY WITH HER) THE SECI=OND WAS A CLOSED ADOPTION AND THEY ARE FINE WITH THAT THE MOM WAS VERY YOUNG AND THAT WAS WHY SHE GAVE THE CHILD UP. CHRISTINA ASKES LOTS OF QUESTIONS AND REALLY HAS NO ANSWERS AND THAT IS REALLY HARD FOR HER AND I AM SURE THAT SHE ALWAYS WONDERS. THEY WANTED TO HAVE AN OPEN ADOPTION BUT THE MOM WAS SCARED. MY AUNT ALWAYS SAYS THAT THE OPEN ADOPTION WAS THE BEST
I ALSO HAVE SOME FRIENDS THAT ADOPTED CHILDREN FROM CHINA AND THAT IS FUN!! THE CHILDREN ARE SO APPRECIATIVE FOR THEIR PARENTS AND THAT IS NICE TO SEE IN THE TEENAGERS.
I THINK THAT ADOPTION IS SUCH A GREAT THING GOOD LUCK!!

I am adopted my self and when my parents went through the process they contacted Luthern Brotherhood. Now I know they changed their name to Thrievent. I believe they might have a website that you could look into. I hope that helps you.
Good Luck.

I have 5 children 2 of those are adopted. My adopted children are like my very own and i love them with all my heart and soul and i thank god daily for these precious gifts. There are several ways to go about adopting, but you will need to get your homestudy done and a few other things and it can be a long drawn out process, it took us 10 years to adopt our daughter but only 2 years to adopt our son. Have you decided if u want o go outside the states to adopt? Have you been in touch with a local adoption agency? There are tons of books out there on adoption that can explain alot of what to expect. There are open and closed adoptions and a whole lot of time and emotions that go into it from both sides.. Also there is a great web page with info and they have great chat rooms where you can get more info and lisen to others trying to adopt of the success stories.http://www.adoption.com/......They are also so good at helping you understand what the birthmom is going thru and alot of times some birthmoms are in the chat room and you can talk to them and here thier story and really get a understanding for the sacrafice they made..

I hope you get your hearts desire!
