Adoption - Shawnee,KS
I am wanting to know if anyone out there has adopted through the state of Kansas. We had stated the process in Missouri and now have to start all over. Does any one have any suggestions or success stories? Thanks

We have been working with a group called Youthville. We really like them. www.youthville.org
If you're working on adopting through the foster care system, I believe both KS and MO require the PS-MAPP class, so if you've taken it in one state, it should be valid in both, as long as it's within the past 12 months.

We are in the middle of our foster-to-adopt classes right now. We are going with KVC (I know they have offices in Lenexa and Olathe and more as well). We wanted to do infant, so we are going this route, rather than straight adoption. But I know they have lots of older kids ready for adoption, but you still need to go through the classes. Let me know if you want more information. D.

I'm sorry, I don't have any info on adopting in Kansas, but I just wanted to say that my mom has adopted 2 special needs boys through the state of Colorado (where I'm originally from), and it has been an incredible experience. Too few people realize that there are kids here in the US that need good homes too, and so many people go abroad. So, congrats to you for looking within KS! If you are looking to adopt any age (not just newborn), the state's Social Services department would probably be who to contact. Best of luck to you and your family!!
