ADHD Problems
My 9 year old son is having side effects from his ADHD medication, sleeplessness and decreased appetite, plus he's having more of the ADHD symptoms. We've tried other medications and the one he's on works best (the least side effects). He wears the patch for 7 hours. I am careful about what he eats. He gets a lot of exercise. He has a structured home life. Does anyone have any ideas about other ways to control his ADHD? Without the medication, he's unable to focus at school and his achievement level drops substantially.

So What Happened?™
Thanks to everyone who took the time to post a response. I really appreciate it. I've gone through the postings. I still need to go back through and make notes and/or look into some of the links provided. In the past we've done chiropractic care, that hasn't made much of a difference. I did do an elimination diet a few years ago and that is how I found he couldn't tolerate dairy. I did add goat cheese a few weeks ago, but took it out. I did take my son to someone who deals in eastern medicine. He gave us some herbs I've made into a tea. He thinks it is digestive problems. This actually makes a lot of sense. He's always been so sensitive to everything he eats. He wants to increase his appetite, then see what is fixed and then address his adhd. If I can eventually get him off the medicine that would be terrific and help his emotional state and focusing. He's 9, so I'd like to get this resolved soon!
Thanks Again!

Try the supplement "Vemma". Liquid that taste like OJ. Small dose works wonders for ADHD. My friend had home therapy visits with Psyc MD for her oldests condition. Dr was amazed at the difference adding a dose helped him. She ordered it from www.myvemma.com/bodyfitness. She does not get involved with the business side, just ordered the product. Go to "WHOLESALE PRICEING" to order enough for one month. It's guaranteed. You can send the empty bottles back and get a full refund if it doesn't work.

Hi, I have a 14 year old son that has ADD he was on Concerta for 4 years and it worked great but he had to take an appetite pill because the concerta made him lose his appetite his body just got to used to it so he is now on Focalin XR and it has been the best so far. Not really any side affects at all. Trust me without my child being on medication he could not focus. He is Acdemically gifted but without the medicine hhe cannot show his potential. Also we are going to the doctor next month to see about getting our 7 year old on medication for ADHD. I also plan on putting him on Focalin too

My friend has treated me and my son for various conditions (with totaly success)over the last year by way of homiopathic treatments... she suggested essential oils could help your son. If you would like to contact her on this you can email her at ____@____.com You can also look into chiropractic care at http://www.dilworthchiropractic.com/ Dr. Stryker is a compassionate mother of 3 who has helped other children completely get off medicine for ADHD.

My son is also on the patch. I don't know? I hate that is is on meds. We are going to try a different school enviroment. I hope this helps. His Dr. says once he is out of school he can choose a career that is not as structured. One that fits his personialty.

Have you had any food allergies ruled out? Definately cut out any soda and limit sugar. Check on an old book about "your child's behavior chemistry " I forgot the exact name. Also if Tv and video games are in your life, limit them. Work on organizational skills and being able to multitask. Use visuals like dry erase boards, charts with rewards, etc. By 6th grade, they will desperately need these organizational skills.

I have friends who have followed the advice in this link
content.nhiondemand.com/shp/HC3.asp?objID=100211&cType=hc
and had good results.
You will probably have to register (real easy) then go to the Tools and resources section, coditions and diseases, search database, ADHD, Treatment Options.
Make sure you buy good quality suppliments if you try this approach. The purity is very important. My business was just reviewed today if you would like to start there to gather more info. Shaklee Independent Distributor
No pressure. I taught high school and dealt with many students on meds. I wish I could have recommended some of these things to my parents then that I know now. I just want to try to help.

Hi,
Being familiar with ADHD and its treatment, I wanted to share some good resources:
Taking Charge of ADHD, Revised Edition: The Complete, Authoritative Guide for Parents

And talk to your child's doctor, so you're all on the same page. Good luck.
