How can I help my child when I am not in class to guide him thorough his class work. he can do it he just gets confused and then gives up doing class work.
Can you home school your child? He may flourish under your care. You can work with him at his level and his pace. Sounds like he needs some one on one right now. Good luck.

i have learned that kids need more breaks.my daughter is the same way.we have learned that after like 15 or 20 mins of work,get their mind off of the work like watching a show for a few mins,or coloring,something the child will like for 10 or so mins then go back and continue the work.and as the child seem like their mind is wondering after a few mins,then its time for break.kids cant keep so much in their head that long of time so taking frequent breaks helps them out alot.
Definitely talk to the child's teacher, and make sure that he can ask the teacher questions when he needs help. Working with a partner during class can help a lot, as well as taking breaks, like getting a drink. A lot of kids have this problem, not just those with ADD. If he can bring some of the work home, then you could help him through it and make sure he completes the work that was assigned in class. I'm a former teacher, and knowing what to do when you get confused is half the battle---maybe more than half.
If you can afford it, try a tutor. If not, talk to your child's teacher maybe s/he has some suggestions or can assign a "work buddy" to help him through the class work. The is to help him, not to do it for him which is hard for kids and parents alike! Good luck.
