Acupuncture and Infertility

Anyone have experience with acupuncture in hopes of conceiving? We have been trying to get pregnant for over a year. Went through the whole Clomid thing and have chosen not to pursue a reproductive specialist as taking shots and lots of hormones scares me. Just wondered if anyone has had success with acupuncture since this is not covered by our insurance and is fairly expensive. Thanks

No direct experience with this, but I do have two things to advise:

1) Merek Ramirez in Springfield is really great: http://www.harmonycentre.org/herbolo.html

2) Marybeth Wolf in Yellow Springs does Maya abdominal massage, that can help with fertility. More at http://arvigomassage.com/.

Good luck!

ACupressure can also be an alternative --usually a bit less expensive and just as effective. Studies have shown that acupuncture does work. I agree with the last couple moms also that diet is a big issue to consider--organic, natural unprocessed foods are important!

Hi S.,
I do not have experience in regards to acupunture; however, I can get you information on how people who haven't been able to conceive (some who haven't even had a period for 10 years!) have been able to conceive very quickly through the help of my company that offers balanced nutrition. I had already been consuming this for a couple of years before I attempted pregnancy (I had horrible PMS issues that this helped my body to fix), but I had NO problem getting pregnant both times -- immediately in fact -- and this is the best thing that you can give your baby in the form of prenatals. If you'd like some information, personal message me and we'll talk.
Blessings to you and your (hopefully soon to be) growing family!

I don't know, but I think there is a lot of complementary medicine out there that we don't know enough about. Try it, it can't hurt, right?
Also, you may have already read it, but do you have "Taking Charge of Your Fertility"? It's got so much great information on overcoming infertility.

HI S.,

I highly suggest acupuncture. I struggled with infertility trying to conceive my 2nd child for 2 1/2 years! I was against any drugs or western fertility treatments. It was very difficult. I tried an acupuncturist and it was a wonderful, just the relaxation it gave was worth it alone! I continued the treatment for many months until my funds ran out. Not sure if it helped directly with me conceiving (I was trying to get my cycles normal) but I got pregnant 3 months later after having to quit acupuncture. I would do it again in a heartbeat and not just for infertility. I have a beautiful 8 mo. old baby girl now;-)

Oh, and I would also highly suggest that book above that someone else suggested: Taking Charge of Your Fertility" great read!

I did do acupuncture along with a round of clomid and had a successful pregnancy. Previously I did clomid and did get pregnant but had a miscarriage at 11 weeks. The acupuncture was very helpful. After the miscarriage my hormones were crazy and I had not had a cycle in 3 months until 2 days after doing acupunture. I did 4 rounds of acupunture ($70 a visit) and truly believed that it helped. I felt so much better after doing acupuncture but by the 4th time I was ready to be done.

One thing I KNOW for sure is that infertility can also be due to poor eating habits, etc. I've done some research and counseling on this issue. It makes sense. If your body does not have the appropriate nuturients to handle the pregnancy or fertilize an egg (could be either party or both) then it's not going to.

You see this MORE & MORE all the time. The MORE people's eating habits go to the toilet, the more infertility issues we have. How many problems did people have 10 vs. 20 vs 30 years ago?

CERTAINLY something that needs looking into. There are specific foods that "feed" the male reproductive system as well as the female's. In addition, you HAVE to stay away from chemicals....food additives, preservatives, etc. DETOX, if you've never done that. It's a great thing to do no matter what and it CERTAINLY can't hurt. AND......it's ALOT less expensive than fertility drugs and/or invetro!

There is a little known infertility resource in Omaha, Nebraska, called the Pope Paul VI center. Dr Thomas Hilgers has done amazing work for couples experiencing infertility. He medicalized a form of Natural Family Planning called the Creighton Method. It works with a woman's body to help her (and her partner) either achieve or avoid a pregnancy. Google Pope Paul VI center to find out more. His methods honor our authentic feminity. His methods do not cover up a problem, or by pass an existing problem to help women get pregnant. He actually helps women solve the problem.Good luck.
