Activity for Preschooler

I am putting my 4 year old son into preschool twice a week this fall. I would like him to do something different and fun on one of the other days he's home. He's very hands on. I looked into the Fort Worth Museum School, but they have no openings, and he wasn't a big fan of the Little Gym. Just something once a week. Any suggestions? Is there a school once a week at the zoo and has anyone's kid attended? I would like something where classes are during the day and am willing to drive anywhere since it would only be once or twice a week for just an hour or two. I live in North Fort Worth. He likes taking photos if there is such a thing as a photo class for kids this young. lol.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

I knew I would get some great advice! Thanks everyone.

Yes, Zoo School is fabulous for the animal lovers. I'm not sure if they will let him take his camera, but they go into the zoo to see the animal they are studying every week, unless it is lightning. They also have a pick-up/drop-off line, which is nice.

Another great one is Van Grow for kids, it's on 7th St, west of downtown. It's a great art studio and they do different projects each week - they encourage individuality, so all of the art work you see will be different.

The other idea I would have for you is a physical activity. Some might think karate is too much, but a great school makes a big difference. My son started at 4 and has had a great time and learned so much. Our school doesn't allow fighting or sparring at this young age. I would drop in and watch classes at a few places before you sign up. Some t-ball leagues have fall and spring teams, so he could play from Sept-Oct and again from Mar-May. Also fun.

Get a copy of July's Fort Worth Child - it has tons of activities in it with all the phone numbers. It's a good resource.

If he likes music you could see if there are any kindermusik classes (kindermusik.com) on one of his days off.

look into preschools at churches or mothers day out programs.
I dont know about your area but most programs are really good..
also for extra activity try zoo school. They have classes in the fall on Saturday.

I actually teach Kindermusik in north Arlington and I would love to talk to you about your son. You can visit my website at www.artschild.com or email me at ____@____.com and I will be happy to answer any of your questions.

SoccerTots is awesome! My 2 1/2 year old goes once a week. They have many locations in the metroplex. www.soccertots.net (i think)

also -- look for the magazine called Ft Worth Child -- lots if ideas every publication. Local recreation centers(Keller Pointe - and Roanoke Center) have interesting classes. CATS in Arlington - Bass Hall (for children) - a Montessori school.
