My daughter Maddi and I just moved up to Minneapolis. We moved to be with Maddi's father which Maddi is very happy about. Yet having mommy and daddy can't stop tears of missing her friends and cousins back home. I JUST got a phone call from back...Maddi's two best friends from back home are coming up for the weekend. Wow happy lil girl! I'll be going nuts by tomorrow night and we have until Sunday night to play, play, play. What should we do, anything kid friendly going on this weekend? Any and all suggestions would be so great. Maddi is so happy, I'm biting my finger nails over all weekend. They will be here by supper time..Please help!

So What Happened?

Shortly after I sent my request my computer CRASHED, ZAPPED, ZOOM, DEAD. Now, with a new computer and the internet back on as of yesterday I want to thank everyone that gave their input to my question some time ago. (This is the first website that I went to yesterday). This is an awesome group...About that weekend that my daughters friends came up to visit, it was wonderful and the responses that I recieved were very helpful. Oh and Linden Hills had some great garage sales. Sorry so late..

You could take them to Como Zoo or the park at the Mall of America they have rides. Mall of America also has Underwaterworld, where they can touch baby sharks and sting rays. Como Zoo has Como Town also which has rides, but I am not sure if the rides are open yet.

Wow how wonderful! I have taken kids to the children's museum in st paul many times.Every time we go there they LOVE it and have a great time. Also maybe they would like to go to Build a Bear at one of the malls. Enjoy!

Welcome to Minneapolis!
Hope you have a fun weekend. There is a HUGE new library opening downtown today (Saturday). I work in a school, and my students involved with student council were privileged to get a sneak peak this week. They were raving about the new library (this coming from middle school students where libraries typically aren't "cool".) I looked up the library online and found they have a big festival going on for the grand opening too. The Teddy Bear band will be playing at noon. I wish I was in town this weekend because I know my son would love that. If you want more info, check out this link:

If you're new to Minnesota, the Mall of America is a big deal, although I'm not sure if I would want to tackle that adventure with four year olds unless you have other adults with you!

The Walker Art Center has certain Saturdays that are free and they run free art programs for kids that I thought looked interesting.

Also, the Children's Museum in St. Paul has a free Sunday program. I think that is the third Sunday of every month, but you may want to call to check the date. That place is a lot of fun for kids, especially your daughter's age.

If you want something more low key, Minneapolis is filled with parks and great playgrounds.

Have fun!

This is a great weekend for kids in Southwest Minneapolis!

The Linden Hills neighborhood in Southwest Minneapolis is having a festival this Sat/Sun. Park activities are Sunday at 43rd & Xerxes Ave S including a bike parade at 11 (decorate at 10:30).

The little shopping district with the toy stores and kid's book store is having a celebration on Saturday. Music, horse drawn rides...etc... There is a pancake breakfast (little ones are free) at Linden Hills congregational church at 42nd and Upton in the morning and then you could head over to the events a block over. It's a fun time.

Also Saturday afternoon up at The Lake Harriet Rose garden is a kite festival with music and dance performances and the chance to make and fly kites. IT is very fun for little ones.

I bet you can find more details by checking out "linden hills festival" and looking on the Minneapolis Parks website for the Kite festival (I think Lyndale Farmstead sponsors it) Hope this helps!
