You could try "Little Kickers" soccer teams www.nilessportszone.com
They coach soccer from 18 mos to 9 yrs old. Just enrolled my 3 yr old, they are great.

Kindermusik (www.kindermusik.com) is supposed to be fun for kids and help them learn while doing fun & musical activities. Our neighbors take their son (who is now 2 yrs old but have gone for a while now). They have a variety of classes for different age groups (infants, toddlers, etc).

depends upon where you are located, but gymboree is another option.

Other free possiblities: check your area public library's Youth Services Department, many park districts will have mom & tot classes (Oak Lawn Gymanstic Center has a great tot program)

Hi R.,

Please check out my website, www.kidwinks.com - it's The site to know with kids in tow. There, you can find kid-friendly events, activities, restaurants (there's even a Dining Deals calendar in the Restaurant section where you can find out where kids eat free), shops and services throughout the Chicago area and suburbs. You can read parents' reviews of places they've visited and write your own (if you become a member, which is free). You can also get search results sorted in order of distance from your house (again, you must be a member for that benefit). Check the box to join our mailing list, and we'll do the work for you on finding fun things to do - we'll email to you a weekly newsletter with links to upcoming fun, family-friendly events. We've received tremendous positive response to our emails - moms love them! We also run regular prize drawings on the site for things like free products, free tickets to shows or Kiddieland, etc.

Hi R.,

I am the mom of a two year old and I offer sign, say and play classes. These are small group classes that teach parents how to use sign language with their hearing babies/toddlers through songs, books, activities and games. Each week also focuses on a baby minds activity devoted to a child development topic.

Take a look at the Chicago Park District web site.
http://www.chicagoparkdistrict.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/p...

I think the next session starts in the fall but online viewing starts in August.
A mother friend of mine told me about it when my daughter was about that age. The classes they have a great and they are a fraction of the cost of gymboree, bubbles, wiggleworms, etc. My daughter actually preferred the class we had her in over gymboree.

other non scheduled things - depends on where you live. Pump it up Party has drop in play, Fantasy Kingdom, Day Frog, etc

Gymboree is great. It's a little pricey though. I started my son there at 8 months and there's a whole group of us that still see each other on a regular basis even though we don't go anymore. The park district has lots of classes. There are some classes going on in summer though not as many as the rest of the year. CPD classes I recommend are the ones taught by Mr Mike out of Norwood Park (moms and tots music), Mr Jay (moms, dads and tots interaction/sing along) at Norwood Park/ Sauganash/ Edison Park. I bet there are some great instructors at parks near you too. It is too late to register online for summer but if you go to your local park they might still have openings available. The library should have story times and reading programs too.

Good luck!
