Activities & Games for 2 Yr Olds

Depending on her resources and how long she has the kids,it would be a good idea to read alot of books like the pop up ones for ones with alot of large colorful pictures to keep their attention.She could also throw in a little bit of games that help teach different languages.It's so adorable and makes me feel proud when my son says something like gracias or counts in spanish to me.Doesnt have to be much,just something to peek their interest for a new language.It's also a great self esteem booster.Other than that, throw in some coloring or a pile of blocks or maybe a little train set and dolls and they'd be set.

My son came home and they had played a game called CopyMonkey. It is similar to Charades. Each child picks an animal and they act out one of it's attributes.

Another way is for the teacher to choose one, and the students act like that animal is some way.

Check out some books from the local library to read to the kids. Also the library might have some idea books for her also.

I would refer her to naeyc.com (national association for the education of young children). It is an excellent resource for DAP (developmentally appropriate practice). For some immediate suggestions, if you are in the south (and I assume you are), we don't get a lot of snow down here. There are snow machines that are available for purchase that are not that expensive. That would be a great experience for the kids. They could see snow for the first time as well as witness first hand the transition from solid to liquid. (If snow is not available, crushed ice could be substituted). Also, children love water. Any activity that they can do with water (where they can touch and splash the water). If the play area has sand, 3-D sand shapes (made the same way as sand castles) would be great! The kids could bring small pails of water over to her and dump them into a pile of sand, then help her to form shapes. That way they are playing as well as learning. Also, she can take used water bottles (sterilized, of course) and fill them halfway with water, then add food coloring. Hot glue the cap to the top of the water bottle so that it cannot be unscrewed or leak. Then take white paper and glue that around the bottle where the label would be. Write the color of the water in that same color (e.g. "blue" in blue marker.) I hope these ideas help!!
