A Good Disinfectant for Granite
Does anyone know of a good Disinfectant cleaner you can use on Granite countertops? I am a germ freak (I have 2 kids) normally I use bleech on everything, however you cannot use bleech or any product that contains bleech on Granite. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions?
So What Happened?™
Thanks everyone for your great recommondations I had no idea that Vinegar was a natural disinfectant since I already use it on my wood floors I'm also going to start using it on the counters. Thanks again

Cinch is a spic and span spray cleaner that works well on granite and it's great for mirrors and windows. It comes in a bright orange spray bottle but I can only find it at Hollywood market and sometimes at Meijers.

M.,
White vinegar and hydrogen peroxide are both disinfectants that can be used alone or together. They are safer for your family than chlorine bleach. You can put straight vinegar in a spray bottle to spray down the counters and it's gentle enough for granite. I'm not sure about hydrogen peroxide on granite. Gross side note: Vinegar, as well as bleach, is approved for use in poultry processing to disinfect carcasses.

I have Granite in my kitchen as well and I use Vinager and Water with a little Windex. It keeps the shine and disinfects. Vinager is a natural disinfectant. The Clorox wipes do not disinfect. Matter of fact I am licensed to do daycare and we were told that we are not allowed to use the wipes to disenfect anything. When I get a big mess on my counter I may use a mild dish soap and water. But then I will spray it with vinager and get the film off. I also use it on my Wood floors. My husband lays them and said that Vinager with Hot water is the best for them.

M. M,
I can't be absolutely sure, but I have heard really remarkable and wonderful things about Apple Cider Vinegar. It's being used for sooo many things these days. Disinfecting may be one. I would suggest that you 'google' it and see what others might have to say. I have used white vinegar in my laundry instead of bleach and my mother (God rest her soul) said it is good for cleaning and whitening - she often used Lysol in the brown bottle and it cleaned, but it sometimes left a tinge of brown.
Hope this helps.

Hi M.,
I use a product called LOC Kitchen Cleaner. It is great on all washable kitchen surfaces, leaves them sanitary and it's bleach free. I buy mine on line through Quixtar. If you're interested in knowing more about this product, feel free to contact me.

I too am the same as you with bleach and ran into this problem when it came to granite. I have been using Scrubbing Bubbles for quite some time on my granite and it works wonders and cleans well.

I have never heard that you can't use bleach on granite, Maybe you can't directly put it on the granite, but I believe you can diloute it.
