A Good but Inexpensive Foundation for Adult Acne

Hey mommas!

I am a 31 year old SAHM mom. I currently use Arbonne foundation and Aveeno clear complexion face wash and moisturizer. I am running out of my Arbonne foundation and wonder if anyone has a suggestion for an over the counter foundation that is not $30+ dollars. I LOVE the Arbonne stuff and it has been the only foundation that I found to not break me out, but I am really needed to crimp our budget. I will buy Arbonne if necessary but I would like to find something cheaper and locally. Any suggestions?

I may just go ahead and order my arbonne foundation this time around and bite the bullet on the cost. A friend gave me some mineral powder foundation I am checking out. If i like it, I may switch. Thank you all for your responses.

I also struggle with adult acne, and I've found bare minerals to work well for me. It does not clog my pores and does not feel like makeup. A little container costs about $25, but lasts me 6 months. You can find bare minerals at any make up store these days, it seems.

Hi Janine -
I have had acne my entire life. Like you, other people wouldn't say I have had "bad" skin, but it has been a rare occasion that my face has ever been completely clear at one time without any pimples (only for a few years after I did Acutane, which is supposed to cure you forever, but only cured me for 5 years). I've tried many different foundations. I used to be a Mary Kay consultant & used their oil free foundation & loved it. But, it has been discontinued, & the new foundation is very heavy. The best foundation I've tried that has good coverage, feels nice, and heals acne at the same time is Proactive. It is a cream-to-powder finish, and is very pretty. It contains salycilic acid, so works on your acne while also covering it. I can't remember how much it costs, but I loved it. I'm currently using Bare Minerals, which is not oily & doesn't clog pores. I think it is around $30, but I like it because as I've aged, my skin has become very sensitive and doesn't tolerate a lot of products. So, if you're looking for something to cover AND heal, I recommend Proactive. If you want something light that doesn't promote new acne, I recommend the Bare Minerals. I also recommend the Proactive skin care system - especially the toner & healing lotion. It really works! :)

Hi Janinie,
You love the Arbonne foundation and it works. I can help you get that same foundation you have been using from Arbonne for $20+. Shoot me an email and I will show you the details then you can decide for yourself.

Hi, Janine - I can answer part of your request. I use Nicole Miller's products by Melaleuca. Pricing is VERY reasonable, with quality comparable to Lancombe, Estee Lauder, etc. Melaleuca also has an incredible acne line called Zap It. Zap It is comparable to ProActive, but costs $15 for all 4 full sized products!! If you are unable to locate products that work for you locally, feel free to contact me. Happy to help.

Hi,
I have also struggled with adult acne. Ugh. I have had luck with bareminerals foundation. Also, since my face breaks out with nearly every wash out there (i'm allergic to both salicytic acid as well as benzol perox. so that pretty much eliminates all the stuff on the market), I have had luck with the philosophy line so far. I broke out for a week with each product but then cleared up. I tend to break out when I try stuff new, but then the second or so week tends to determine how I do.

good luck.

Hi Janine -

I am a Mary Kay Consultant and would love to show you our Foundation - it is no where near $30 - it's transfer resistant wearing and very lightweight. We have the Liquid and now Mineral Powder Foundation. You are looking at $14.70 for liquid and $18.90 for the MPF - that also includes tax. Shoot me an e-mail if you'd like to try it out :0) I will be in Richmond this coming Sunday. Here is my website as well - www.marykay.com/tmartinez883

Can I just make one suggestion? Make sure you get 8 8 oz. glasses of water in a day. That will help clear up your skin. Whenever I made sure I did that I would walk by a mirror and suddenly notice how nice my skin looked. And it should only take about a week before you see some changes.

Hi Janine,

I don't have an answer for the less expensive foundation, but I am in the same boat as you. I am using a glycolic face wash called Glyton twice a day that really helps keep my skin clear. Unfortunately, it is $25 a bottle, but so worth it to me. You may be able to do less expensive foundation if you use it. I hope this helps.

I don't know if you've ever tried Proactiv, but the stuff works like a charm. It's wonderful. However, it may not fit into your budget right now. I know they make a foundation, but I haven't tried it and am not sure how much it costs. That said, I think it's a safe bet that it would be kind to your skin and not cause breakouts. Good luck!
