A Fun topic...share YOUR Story!

Since we always seem to post questions regarding bad behavior or just general concerns, I thought this one would be fun...and a nice relief with some humorous stories to share....
I just saw a topic about children climbing out of cribs, waking up in the middle of the night, etc. It reminded me about how much my children have scared me to death in the middle of the night by 'sneaking' into my room....and standing RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY FACE until I wake up! They don't say a word, well, every once in a while, maybe a little "Mommy?", but generally, they just walk to my bedroom, stand next to MY side of the bed (NEVER my husband's of course!!) and when I wake up I realize there are two eyeballs staring right back at me!
I know my sister has had her children do this to her in the middle of the night...anyways, I thought this would be a funny topic to bring up. Share your story if you have one!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

This was fun! And boy am I relieved that I am not the only one who gets the snot scared out of them while sleeping....well, I say relieved because there have been times when I have woken up to the thought that my poor children were POSESSED!!! It is SO SCARY when they do that to me!!
All the stories were great. Glad to have aided in some laughs!!!

My son has done the same thing! He gets IN MY FACE, his nose almost touching my nose and says, "mommy". I jump! There are so mnay funny stories out there, good for you to add some laughs and smiles.

here is one for you....I had just gotten out of the shower the other day and put my robe on so I could go get my 2 yr old daughter dressed. I sat on the floor to change her diaper. Her foot went up under my robe, she started moving her foot around slowly. She got this weird, confused look on her face, you could see a question mustering. She said, "MOMMY!!! COVER 'DAT UP!!! Put some c'wothes on!" I laughed so hard! She speaks so baby like and to hear that from her, it was great!

Hope you get lots of funny stories and quotes!

My girls both did that. Now my grandaugter does it. I think i remember doing it to my mom. thanks for the laugh and memory. L.

My 5 y/o stepson will "sneak" into the room, make it to daddy's side of the bed, and then whisper really loudly "DADDY"...He'll do that over and over until I actually start shaking my husband to tell him his son wants him, otherwise he wouldn't notice, even though the "whisper" is really loud :)

Yesterday my 4 year old daughter was making a tent in the living room and it kept falling apart and of course she didn't want my help. I gave her some suggestions that she obviously ignored. She looked right at me and said, "Don't worry mommy I am an American, I can fix this problem." I have no idea where this came from but it has encouraged me to be more patriotic.

Cool idea, L.! I've been trying to decide what stories I would tell about my kids - there are so many. Then I thought of the museum/aquarium stories from when they were little. My older son loved every one of them he went to, and took them very seriously. He also loved the Magic School Bus book series. There's a little girl named Dorothy Ann in the series who always takes her books with her everytime they go on a field trip, and my son seemed to be a bit fascinated with her. When he was 5 years old, we took him to a Natural History Museum, and while standing in front of a dodo bird display, he held up his museum notebook, looked at it as if he were reading and announced to all the people in the room, "According to my research, this is a dodo bird, and it has been extinct for thousands of years." Dorothy Ann always says "according to my research" and that was my son's chosen phrase. It shocked the entire room to witness this, thinking that this little kid was reading. He couldn't read, but he knew all about that dodo bird!

My youngest son had trouble with his speech for many years. But if he had something to say, he would say it. There was a new display at the Norwalk Aquarium in CT that showed a lot of ocean creatures - including some bizarre ones from "the midnight zone". It was a bit dark in this display because most of the fish needed to be in the dark, so it was a little hard to see. The lady who put together the exhibit was there the first day to see how the visitors reacted to the work she had done. She came up to my young 3 year old, and asked him what he thought of the displays. My son needed to go to the potty in the worst way - he had just potty trained. He wanted badly to talk about the fish with her, but he didn't want to pee in his pants, so he put his hands down in his pants to help keep from peeing and said to her "I want to show you something!" She couldn't understand his speech, leaned down and say "What?" and as he said it again, she looked down and saw his hands in his pants. Dumbfounded, I was trying to figure out what to say, and she looked like she was going to die, and then he proceeded to tell her that the octopus had a funny eye. She began to laugh so hard that I thought she might choke. We laughed together while my husband took my son to the bathroom, and I told her that I bet she learned something that day that didn't have to do with fish!

heh heh... A few days ago, while sound asleep on my belly, my two year old snuck up to the bedside and woke me up by doing raspberries on my shoulder...

when my four year old was two, he came into my room, stared at me in my sleep until I woke up, then said, "there's a robot in my room, he's looking at me..." all I could say, under my breath, as I was getting out of bed to find this "robot" was, "I bet he's not nearly as scary as YOU in the middle of the night."
great topic, there are so many nights that come to mind when I saw this one :)

My husband talks in his sleep, but I think nothing of it since he is an adult. So imagine my surprise to walk in on him and my son (a few months old) taking a nap and both are talking in their sleep, taking turns like it’s a conversation. By the time I return with the video camera they both stop. I thought it was the cutest thing. What a trait to inherit.

We got my son a toddler bed after I found him climbing out of the crib and almost broke my neck running across the room to get him before he fell out. I opened my eyes in the middle of the night. I did not know why I did that, but was amazed to find my 18-month son looking at me in the face rocking side to side like he was patiently waiting. I picked him up and put him in the bed with us only to forget the whole thing happened until the next afternoon. I've also woken up by feeling constant tugging at the covers and hearing tiny grunts, only to find my son trying to climb up his dad to get into the bed, so I gave him a hand, poor determined guy.

Thank you for letting us share.

God Bless You

OK, MAN- did I need that laugh you just gave me. These are not sleep related but fun...

When I was in highschool I took a trip to Vegas with a friend's family. I was holding the 3 year old boy and we walked around the lobby while we were waiting to get checked in. They had a giant statue of David. We stopped to admire it and while I was holding him he pointed up at it and declared as loud as you can imagine... "WOW- look at his PEEPEE!!" I was so embarrassed I thought I would die.

One year I took my neice to Church on Easter Sunday- they called all the kids up to give a sermon they could understand-she was about 5 at the time. When the kids were done and went to find their seats she was clearly lost. I tried to get her attention without disturbing the service but I could see she was getting more and more frantic. Finally she screamed "AUNT R., where are you?" everyone in the entire church laughed as I stood up so she could find me.

I can't wait until my son is old enough to bring me more funny stories to share!

Our 2 1/2 year old has always be a good, consistent sleeper. She had been climbing out of her crib at naptime, but she hadn't woken up before us before, and we'd never had a nighttime visitor to our room. Most mornings my husband and I are up a good 2 hours before the kids, but this particular morning was the first Saturday in months that we had the chance to sleep in. The sleep didn't last when I awoke to two hands around my ankles! She had woken up, come in and started climbing up the end of the bed. I guess my ankles were something to hold onto as she climbed....What she didn't know was that was MY fear when I was little...someone grabbing my ankles in the night! :) I have since recovered, and she has learned that she should say, "Wake up, Mommy. The sun is up!"

One night, my husband and I awoke to her trying to join us in bed....what we didn't know is that she had already successfully put her pillow up there and a few of her stuffed animal "friends". She had been working hard!

LOL...

I woke up with such a start when my son (5 at the time) woke me up because we were literally face to face. And I do mean face to face. After I screamed one of those screams (effectively scaring the heck out of him),the kind of scream that one screams if someone is chasing you with an axe,...lol, He explained that he had come to wake me because his stomach hurt but became intrigued < (not his word)with the movement of my eyelids (rem) and the sound of my breathing and wanted to get a closer look!!

My 4 yr old does the waking me up thing all the time, especially since the birth of our second son. I'd fall back asleep after nursing the new baby in the wee hours only to be awakened by a hand on my shoulder a face next to mine and a whisper or "Mommy". He also periodically talks/laughs/screams in his sleep. We were out of town once and my husband was sleeping with him in one room (I was with the baby in another). The next morning my husband said the 4 yr old had sat up in bed in the middle of the night said something unintelligible with his eyes wide open and then thrown himself back down on the bed and started snoring. My husband said it was the freakiest thing he'd ever seen. He's had attacks of croup in the night that have given him heart attacks, that horrible noise coming over a staticy monitor is terrible. THe first and only time he's ever thrown up was also in the middle of the night. All over the bed and pillow and wall and himself and his animals and snuggle blanket.
