9 Year Old Girl Menstruate Without Signs of Development Elsewhere

Can a 9 year old menstruate without showing signs of developing elsewhere? No breasts or pubic hair.

What can I do next?

You definitely want to take her in to the pediatrician. I've seen other moms post on here about precocious puberty and the importance of getting it stopped.

I was under the impression that they had to be somewhat developed first. This is according to my pediatrician. I guess there could be rare exceptions. If she is bleeding though i would have her checked to see if something else is wrong :(

yes my friends daughter did it

I started my period when I was 11 and did not have breasts or pubic hair. I didn't develop until I was about 14 or 15.

It is unusual but possible I believe. You should check with a doctor for sure and have her physical check up done.

i did, i started when i was 9 and finally started having tender breasts within the next year.

Amazing how young these girls are now days huh? Needless to say, I waited to develop elsewhere until I was 30 and it never happened, no boobs, no hips, and pubic hair about 2 years after I got my period. Huge bummer for me but a good testament that your daughter is fine. You certainly can get your period and not show signs of other development for a long time after, it is just a stepping stone. I would say if you are feeling uncomfortable, I would probably call the doc and ask or take her in to be sure there is nothing else going on.

Good luck.
