Hey!
I am in 8 grade and am graduating to high school in about 2 months. I found a GORGEOUS dress but I am not sure if it is too fancy or not.
The dress is a mint green high-low and is strapless. (High-low is when the dress is shorter in the front and longer in the back)
The shoes are crystal 2 inch heels. And I am wearing a crystal necklace and crystal earrings. Is this too fancy?

What can I do next?

It sounds a tad much BUT if you like it and feel good in it then that's ALL that matters :)

There are always people over and underdressed at graduations. And this is coming from someone that has been in them from middle school to graduate school :) So again, if you like it then rock it!

Our school did not allow strapless dresses. Check with your dress code.

It sounds like a beautiful dress, but you have to find out if your school will allow strapless for graduation.

One year, the middle school I work at WARNED all the girls about no strapless, no halter, etc... they still had to follow the dress code. Girls that showed up in an inappropriate dress (with out an appropriate cover-up or shrug) were given a triangle of material to wear as a shawl over their shoulders........

Personally, I would rather see the students OVER dress than underdress....

My daughter's 8th grade dance dress code was set nothing below the knee. That would've made it more of a prom.

None of us can answer this question accurately because each school has their own traditions and dress codes for promotion ceremonies.

As a middle school teacher I've seen promotion at a couple of schools. My first school was more formal for attire. There were rented, white, wedding type chairs, pretty flowers, and it was out in the courtyard. Boys wore suites and ties, or shirt and ties with no jacket. Girls wore dresses like you're describing but NO STRAPLESS. (really, if they came withstrapless and had no sweater to put on over, they had to put a loaner shirt on... ugly). My next school, boys wore khakis and dress shirts no tie, and girls wore sundresses and flat shoes. Again, NO STRAPLESS.

Ask at school. They will know the answer.

Strapless sounds too fancy for a graduation. It's more appropriate for prom or a formal dance in high school. Graduation dresses are usually sundresses, cute but more casual. I think you'd feel overdressed and out of place in such a fancy gown (even though it sounds beautiful).

What's mom say? What's everyone else wearing?

If it's school-appropriate, I think you should be able to wear whatever makes you happy. It's your day. But if the school or mom says no, then I guess it's no.

Congratulations!

Every commuunity is different in regard to 8th grade graduation. Surely the school wIll give some direction to you and your parents about the level of dress for the event.

The dress you describe sounds much too mature for a girl your age. Have your mother or other trusted adult help you find something appropriate to wear. We don't always realize it in time, but dressing in a manner that is too fancy or too old for our age leaves us looking silly, not more grown up.

Strapless is a bit much for an 8th grade graduation. Other than that, it sounds great.

Congratulations!

Sounds like my daughter's dress. It depends on how fancy the dress design is. Some of the girls get fancy enough for prom.

It's your graduation, you should wear what you want as long as it's okay with your family and meets the school's dress code for the event. I think it sounds cute. Your around the same age as my baby, she is graduating from 8th grade too. I can't wait for her to find something to wear. My niece graduated from 8th grade last year and her school didn't allow strapless dresses, so you should check before you buy it. Good luck!!

Also, you might be able to find a coordinating fabric and have straps put on the it, if you are required to wear straps. Plus, if you are wearing a gown, like my daughters school, it will be covered and will only be visible after when you're taking pictures with friends and family.

It sounds a little too fancy for graduation. And I think you need to check with the school dress code and the requirements for dress for graduation before you make a decision. Your dress sounds more appropriate for a prom or a ball or a dressy affair than a graduation, which tends to have more formality and more decorum. You will have lots of opportunities in the future to wear a dress like that, but I don't think it is appropriate for an eighth grade graduation. Congratulations on your graduation! The next four years will go quickly!
