I need to get a gift for a 7 year old boy. Any ideas on what is popular for that age?
I've got a 7 year old boy too. He love Pokemon cards, football & baseball cards, Bakugan's, lego sets, nerf guns, board games (like Battleship, Operation, Guess Who).

Legos and Spy Gear are extrememly popular at this age! My son loves anything camo, snap-together models (Hobby Lobby has them), Battleship, Operation, Cuponk (inexpensive, at Target). He has a friend who wants a small "safe" with a lock so he can keep his brother from eating his candy-lol.
My son is almost 7. He LOVES tech deck finger skateboards and ramps from Target. He also loves spy gear.
I've got O. of those!
Anything Super Mario is a hit with my son! (T-shirts, sweatshirts, video games, etc.)
He also loves playing with footballs, baseballs, trading cards.
Legos! Star Wars, Power Miners and Atlantis are just a few Legos collections boys this age think are cool.
Silly Banz and Pokemon cards are also big with our seven-year-old son right now.
We recently were invited to a 7yr old boys birthday party and I asked his mom for suggestions on what to get, (as I have a 7yr old girl). Her suggestions were much of the advice you have already received. Legos, k'nex, board games, this child was into baseball so anything related to that, Hot wheels, or craft sets.
