6Weeks Pregnant with 2Nd Child

This is my 2nd pregnancy and I was wondering how soon you started to 'show' with your next pregnancy. I am not saying that I had washboard abs but I could wear clingy shirts and not worry about anything hanging over. Now my belly just looks huge! I have read that you show sooner with additional pregnancies opposed to the first. I know that I am eating a little more now but not that much. I feel bloated and don't care to keep my abs tight anymore like I used to so I'm not sure if that contributes to the large belly or if I really am starting to show because everything is changing in there. I do realize that my uterus is still pretty small and it's probably the fact that I am letting my abs relax now. Anyway I was hoping to hear from someone to tell me that I may start beginning to show sooner opposed to just getting fat. It's kind of embarrassing to have a belly at 6weeks along.

What can I do next?

You definitely can begin to show sooner with subsequent pregnancies. And body shape can also affect that too. So if you don't have lots of body fat, you will probably show sooner than avg as well.

With my 2nd, 3rd and 4th child I was huge pretty much right away. By 3 months I looked more like 5 months. My pants became tight right away but I've pretty much always wore stretchy pants and I'm not a small person.

With every consecutive child the muscles have already been stretched and so you show sooner...I didn't gain an abnormal amount with my third baby and I swear I looked 6 months pregnant when I was only 2 or 3 months along...and yet my sister had two babies and had the perfect basketball belly each time ( so jealous ) and with my first son, I looked like I was carrying triplets practically and left the hospital with a nearly flat stomach...everyone is different, don't stress, eat healthy meals, even if you have to break them up into mini multiple mini meals. Continue to exercise in moderation, not only to keep in shape but to strengthen your muscles for delivery...I tried yoga with my last pregnancy...it was awesome!
((hugs))
Congratulations on your upcoming addition!

I just want to say . . . CONGRATULATIONS!!! and 'Yes' you will show much quicker with each pregnancy. But it's okay.

Also, the best gift I ever gave my oldest was a sibling! It was also the lowest maintenance decision as well, believe it or not. By the time the baby was 6 months old, he occupied my son so much. My first born wasn't on my leg all the time or begging me to do stuff all the time. Once his little brother came along, THEY were joined at the hip. They are two years apart and are still the best of friends now at ages 8 & 10. They even talk about how they are best friends. I nurture and encourage their relationship with each other because I think it's important to have a simbling to depend on. I liked having that so much that once I had my 3 child (which I was suppose to be done because she was a girl after two boys), I HAD to give her a buddy too. So then I had a fourth and they are approx. 2 years apart too - It's AWESOME!

Here's a Suggestion: At 8 months pregnant, have your oldest shop for a gift for the baby. Then at the hospital when they meet for the first time he gives the baby a gift and the baby gives him a gift! That is a great start to a Beautiful Friendship!
Take Care, God Bless, and Good Luck!

Hi J.,
I'm 4 months pregnant with my second (my daughter is 6 months old), and I definitely started showing a lot faster this time around. However, as you can see, I didn't have much of a "break" between pregnancies, so that might be a factor in me showing so much earlier. :) I did get down to within 5 pounds of my pre-pregnancy weight before getting pregnant again with my second, but the ligaments and everything were still stretched, I'm sure, so it's just happening much sooner this time. But from what I hear, it happens that way for most 2nd time mommy's!! Anyway, good luck to you!

I'm not really sure if you want to hear this, but when I got pregnant the second time my daughter was 110 mo. When I went to see the doctor (at 7 weeks) I was starting to "show" (it sounds like what you are decribing). I really didn't think anything of it since I just had a baby a year ago. After the appointment, my hubby and walked out in shock because we found out we were having TWINS!!!!
Now my daughter is getting ready to turn 3 in a couple of weeks and my twin boys are 16 mo. We are loving every minute of it. Just thought I would share that, maybe you will get a great surprise too.

Thank you for posting this for two reasons. I have a little one turning 2 in July and and also due with #2 in August. Just yesterday I was thinking the same thing. I did show fairly early with Ellie, but at only 7 weeks my middle is definately rounded. It helps to know others do see the same thing. I do remember reading that because everything is already stretched out, showing earlier is common. My guess is that would include bloating and everything. Good luck!

It does happen faster. Your body remembers being pregnant. The first time, it was adjust and trying to figure it out - Now it knows and just takes over! I had to wear maternity pants at 8 weeks with my 2nd! Enjoy being pregnant, it was the one time that I didn't have to worry about sucking my stomach in :)

Sounds like we are kind of in the same boat. I'm 4 weeks along but feel like I look further along. That is probably becuase I still carry 10 lbs I haven't lost from pregnancy with DD (16 months old now). I think it's a combination of things - women's stomachs are more stretched and relaxed after having a baby, women are more excited to 'show' with a second (for some). But I do certainly feel like I'm more like 8 weeks along, but that's probably just me feeling like that since my stomach looks so big!! I mean it's always had a bulge and bigger after my daughter but I swear, yesterday when I looked in the mirror, I could swear it popped out. But then again, maybe it was gas? Haha!

Hey J.! Join the club! I was absolutley showing @ 6 weeks with my 2nd pregnancy!! I walked around thinking people must be looking at me thinking "fat girl"! I went ahead and started wearing my maternity clothes. Most all my friends that have had mulitple pregnancies say the same thing. So you are not alone, you are not fat, and yes, you may be a little bloated!!

Enjoy your pregnancy and congratulations!!!

I think it is different no matter what. I got huge with my first, was trying to eat right and follow the nutrition suggestions that the Dr gave me and ended up getting fussed at everytime I went to the dr for gaining weight too fast but I was weighing out all my food, making sure I wasn't overeating and drinking tons of water. It made me feel awful that I was gaining so much and trying so hard. Anyway the baby only weighed 7 lbs and took me 6 months to get to a comfortable weight. My 2nd pregnancy, I ate however I wanted and didn't gain weight as fast but did get big at 6 months. She weighed 6lbs 12oz. I did lose more weight after she was born. The 3rd child, I hardly gained at all until the last 2 months and wore my regular clothes for 5 months and he also weighed 6lbs 12oz. I lost this weight a lot quicker after the 3rd one and was even smaller than I was before I got pregnant with the 1st so was very pleased but not sure if it was the idea of knowing that was the last one and won't have to worry about gaining weight from having more babies or if I was more active keeping up with 3 kids and more involved in church and the oldest school and sports activities.

I just say, don't worry about it and eat when you feel hungry and every pregnancy is different and dieting during pregnancy is definately not recommended so don't stress over it and if you really think you need to get back into shape wait until a few months after the baby comes but give yourself some time to adjust and don't let the weight gain bother you. It is something most women have to deal with but loving those babies is so worth every moment.

I showed a lot faster with my second...I was in maternity clothes full time 2 months earlier with this one than my first (12 weeks with #2, 4 months with my first). I am also wondering if part if it was that I knew how much more comfortable I'd be with the maternity clothes this time around rather than being mortified like I was last time and waiting till I couldn't pull off the rubber band trick, bella band, etc.

hi, you will show a little sooner, but it sounds like bloating
I am 10 weeks now and from 5-9 weeks I was terribly bloated! i read that calcium fights bloating and noticed my prenatal only had 15% of my daily calcium so I started taking a calcium supplement. Withing two days the bloating was gone! and now I look 10 weeks pregnant, not 7 months pregnant :)

I wore size three before I had kids. After my first pregnancy in 2005, I could fit back into my threes but fives were my fit size. Then after my second pregnancy in 2006, I still wore size five afterwards, though I did show sooner during the early months and got a little larger during the pregnancy. Then last year, during my third pregnany, I was like you describe... I was eating more, and started showing around 6 weeks like you! My mom-in-law swears she could tell at just around 2 weeks that I was pregnant again. I thought maybe I was just fatter since I eat more.
By 2 months I looked HUGE, everyone swore it was twins. Well, it was just a big girl, she came out 8 1/2 lbs 3 wks ago, and also I had a LOT of amniotic fluid with that pregnancy... the nurses said it was like the nile river came out of me and it just kept coming out lol. Well that was 3 weeks ago and I can't even fit into size 7s now.... I'm probably a size 9 right now, but I am hoping to at least get down to a seven. It's only been three weeks... I got huge with this pregnancy, and I think my eating more did have something to do with it. I got up to 150 with this one, and weighed myself the day after to see how much was baby and amniotic fluid, and only 15 lbs was. So, the rest is the preggy fat that I am going to be trying to get off for the next few months. I was around 110 before this pregnancy.

I completely understand how you are feeling, because this last pregnancy was the same way for me, and it didn't help the comments that people would say either! Especially from my mom-in-law... about how huge I was, and how it was twins when I knew it wasn't twins!

I am 23 weeks with my second child. I started having to wear maternity pants at about 12-13 weeks. I noticed I started to show alot sooner than the first. I had gained 6 lbs by the time I went to the doctor at 10 weeks. Everyone I have talked to has said the second pregnancy they have shown alot sooner and it gets sooner with each pregnancy. I have also had alot less energy than the first pregnancy, probably due to having a 3 year old!

You are definitely not alone. I showed really early with my 2nd baby even though through the whole pregnancy I only gained 20 pounds. I was in maternity jeans by 12 weeks (and we're talking the ones with the panel in the front!). At the time I was also taking evening college courses and by 19 weeks, I couldn't fit comfortably behind a school desk! I didn't show near as fast with my first son even though I gained about 35 pounds the first time around. I always heard you show sooner the second time but I couldn't believe how drastic it was. Best of luck with the baby! You'll have your hands full with a 2-year-old and a baby...Trust Me!

Hi J.....
I am pregnant with my third baby and with each one I've shown a lot sooner than the one before. With this one, I'm just over 12 weeks and I look like I'm at least 4 months along. So, yes, you do show sooner.
Good luck!

I started getting a bloated belly around 8 weeks, though I wasn't really showing yet since I know my uterus was still below my pelvic bone. I'm 15 weeks along now and definitely showing, though I can still fit in most of my old clothes, I'm trying to put off maternity wear for as long as possible. I didn't show with our daughter until around 20 weeks. I still feel more bloated than anything.. and I've been told I don't "look" pregnant. In fact my mom was nice enough to tell me I just look like I've had one too many beers. Very sweet of her.

I felt like started to show @ 2 weeks with my second pregnancy...and that's before I knew I was pregnant! I thought for sure I was going to have twins or one HUGE baby with the way my belly got so big so fast, but she ended up being almost the exact same weight as my first...7-3.
I think the body remembers what to do and how to grow with the second child...not that it makes it any easier to deal with!
Congratulations and good luck!

I started showing immediately with my second. Everyone thought I was having twins. Turns out I gained all my weight in the first two trimesters. Also the second time around your body already knows what to do.
