6 Yr Old Failed Hearing Test - Need Doctor Somewhere Between McKinney and Plano

I'm really upset that my daughter failed her hearing screen at school and was wondering if you have any suggestions on who to take her to for another screen. Should I go to an ENT or just call her pedi? Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

You should take him to an ENT the pedi. will tell you that any way. I recommend Dr. Mehendale in Frisco. He is great.

I think his web site is www.entfrisco.com

DEFINITELY go to an ENT!! I cannot stress how important that is!! My soon to be 13 year old is hearing impaired due to repeated ear infections that were treated by her pediatrician. I would recommend Dr. Robert Owens. He's down at Baylor at Gaston Avenue, but he is the BEST doctor! He took over my daughter's case after her original ENT passed away and he's very good.

Callier Center in Richardson could help you. It is connected to UTD and they have a booth available to test your daughter's hearing thoroughly. An ENT would just check to see if there is a physical reason such as ear wax. I have two daughters that have worn hearing aids since they were 4 so I have been down this road.
Good Luck!

My son (myself and other members of my family) see Dr. Gretchen Champion. She is an ENT, but she does work with the Hearing Center of Allen as well regarding hearing problems in patients.

Hi M.,

I am hearing-impaired (profoundly deaf) myself, since birth so I might be able to help you. I think first you should call your pedi to see what he or she might refer you to go to. I would think the pedi could refer you someone they know in their office area or someplace in Mckinney/Plano that you prefer.

I have 3 children (7, 4, and 23 months) myself (they are all hearing, but both my husband and I are deaf). My mom was first concerned about my first born when he was not talking enough around 18 months old. So for my mom's peace of mind, I went ahead and had him go through a hearing test just right before he turned 2 years old. It was done at Dallas Otolaryngology Associates, and their phone number is ###-###-####. It is located on the first floor, building A, of Medical City Dallas hospital. They can do an in-depth hearing test for you. They have lots of information on various degree of deafness, and on what degree of hearing loss your daughter might have. She may have very little hearing loss, and may need very little help. You might not want to go that far, but just wanted to pass that information to you anyway. Let me know if I can help you in any way.

Go to a ENT they are much better equipped for this type of thing. My niece lived with me and had the same thing and she needed to sit closer to the front of the class but eventually needed hearing aids. I also have a background in deafness. You will get a better idea of what to do for your daughter by going to the ENT. They will do another hearing test and will continually watch her hearing through the years to make sure she's not losing more.

Good Luck!

Dear M.,
My daughter failed a hearing test at school a few years ago. We started with the pedi. She repeated the test, then referred us to an audiologist. Your pedi will know which direction to go, if you need more testing, so that's the best place to start.

Good Luck.

L., Mom of a 12-year-old.

I second the Callier Center. But you don't have to go downtown - They are on the UTD Campus in Richardson. Very easy to get to from George Bush. My son did a hear test there when he was 2. (He passed) But I know they do more than just test - if needed. They have a website too. Good Luck!
