6 Month Old with Very Sour Smelling Bm's
Sorry for the gory details, but... 6 month old has/had cold with congestion to the point she was either gagging on the phlem or it was getting into her stomach and then making her throw up (had her into the pediatrician--ears are fine, lungs are fine, no fever). That has resolved, but now she has had 2+ days of having 2 to 3 BM's that are super sour smelling and literally oozing out the sides of her diaper--they are thick, not pure liquid. More info: we have NOT changed any new foods since she got the cold, she went a few days with barely eating or taking the bottle, but that has now resolved, her soft spot is fine (not sunken, so not dehydrated), she is perfectly happy otherwise--playing, "talking", typical nap schedule, etc, and her gums do not appear to be swollen for possible teething. YES, I have a call in to the on-call pediatrician but frankly I find you mom's more helpful at times like this! Any thoughts? Hopefully now that I've written this, it will resolve on its own--wouldn't that be great!

Since she waas throwing up she more than likely has gotten rid o f all the good bacteria in her stomach & intestines. This can cause diareha & other BM issues. She needs to rebalance here good bacteria so that her digestion will return to normal. If you have already started her on solids & she does not have milk issues, try giving her some yougurt with active cultures, one without added sugars would be best. If not you can talk to a health food store & see what they recommend for probiotics for infants.

this sounds normal - that congestion gets through someow. as long as she is acting normal/healthy, im sure its just the congestion is dripping down her throat and passing through - its going to be slimy! :D
so im sure you are fine. :D

Almost every time any of my children have colds that involve a lot of mucus, they end up with nasty bms toward the end of the cold. Since they ingest large amounts of the mucus, a yucky diaper, or 5 lol, is to be expected. When my children have this prob it is usually a sign to me, at least in my experience, that it is the infection passing thru her system. Of course if it doesn't go away then u should definitely take your baby to the doc.

The only thing I can think of is it's teething - that's the only time my son (almost 17 months)has sour smelling dirty diapers. Good luck!
