6 Month Old Activities with Mom

I am looking for some entertaining things to do with my 6 month old son on the couple of week days that I have off now...or at least one of these days. I'd like interactive things that we can both by involved in, close to home (NRH/Colleyville area) and not too expensive. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

I got a Ft Worth Zoo membership when my son was 6 months old. We have gone every week since - he is 1 now. I highly recommend it. He loves being outside, and every time we go he has a new experience. Storytime and kindermusic were still too advanced at that age.

Have fun!

When my son was little there was an early childhood music educaton program at TCU. We started him when he was quite young. Similar programs are Kindermusik and Musicgarten. There are several around in the area, but I'm not sure where. First United Methodist Church in Grapevine is probably one of them. The Master's Touch in G'vine. Seems like one of the rec centers has it also.

Check with the recreation centers for other activities also. You usually don't have to be a resident to sign up, so check the neighboring areas as well.

Another thing is swimming. Several places around have a "mom and me" type class. Probably Emmler is closest to you, but the Keller Pointe may have one also.

Kindermusik is a great program. The teacher in Grpaevine is fantastic. I have taken my kids, now 6 & 4, since they were infants. They are both still going.

I would look into the public libraries. The ones in Arlington all have a "baby" story time. They don't really so much read a whole book as they sing songs that you can sit on the floor and hold your baby and sing along. Eensy weensy spider. And lots of songs that include bouncing the baby on your knees. It is a fun thing to go do - you interact with your baby and meet other moms as well.

I found at 9 months a baby sign language class. We went for 6 weeks and then again a few months later went for 6 more weeks. My daughter knows about 60 of the 72 signs and she could let me know so much before she could even talk. It was the best experience I have had as a Mom. I have a son who is 21 years old and now my 20 month old daughter and I just think it has been the most beneficial parenting tool I have ever learned. We went to the Baby Signs with Beebo classes. You can find them on the web. I have heard the ones with Beebo are the best and the kids love them. Beebo is a big stuffed bear and my daughter now has a small one and sleeps with him every night.

Another idea is to join a meetup group. www.meetup.com I found several Moms groups that way and got involved. Or mops (mothers of preschoolers) they are also on the web. They have meetings and activities as well.

Good luck!

We love going to storytime at Southlake's library located in the Town Center. Tuesday 10am would be great for you and your little man. Sing songs, read a book, & meet other moms/babies. Storytimes are FREE, and if this one doesn't work for your schedule, check out some other libraries in your neighborhood.

check your local library, ours has story/song time for babies. You can also check for a mommy and me exercise class, but the only ones I know of are stroller strides and they are pricey.

Hi K., we had my daughter in Gymboree and it was great. I'm not quite sure what age group they start with. Also Baby Einstein videos are a great way to interact with your baby and not have to leave the house! They learn so very much from them too. Good luck.
