Hello ladies. I'm celebrating my 5 year wedding anniversary with my husband on Friday! I've been so busy with the two kids and a new house that I just have not had any time to think about getting him anything. I don't even know what the traditional 5 year anniversary gift is supposed to be. Do any of you have any suggestions on something I could do for him that would really WOW him? I'm not very creative, but I want to do something fun and memorable for him. Time is running out, so it's gotta be something fairly simple since most of my time is consumed by our children.
Thanks in advance, T.

So What Happened?

Thanks to everyone who responded to my request. They were all great ideas. Since the traditional 5 year anniversary gift is wood, I went with a simple wooden gift. My husband had mentioned before that he wanted a nice mantel clock once we bought our new house, so I figured what a better time to get it then now, since we're in our new house, and it was traditional and symbolic! He loved it and was very happy that I had remembered that he wanted one.
Now, I have several great gift ideas for the next five years that I can start preparing for now, scrapbooks, trips, songs etc...
Thanks again!

I dont know if this is feasible with a 20 month old but you could take him to a hotel maybe down at the beach and get a couples massage. Would be kinda expensive though.

WOW...this is a good request...I had to think about that...
I dont know what you are thinking, or what you have to spend, Does he like football? What about getting him 2 tickets to a game...I dunno..steelers or philly???? Maybe he doesnt even like them...LOL I dont know what 5 yrs is to be either....Maybe take some funny and silly pics of the kids, and have someone take funny pics of you, and make a little scrap book for him, and title it..."Happy Annyoumakemecrazyforyou"..instead of the traditional happy anniversary. I dont know..i am still thinking...LOL

Dear T.,
I too was in the same boat as you this past Sept. We celebrated our 5th year also. and like you I was at a loss as to what to get him. I don't have much time to go shopping without my 2 boys and he really didn't need anything anyway. I am pretty sure that the 5th year is paper. You said you weren't that creative but I am sure you can muster up a little creativity and write him a poem or song like I did. I promised him that if I ever got to make an album, i would put that song on it and dedicate it to him. try writing about how you met, what your courtship was like, about your wedding, or what is has been like seeing him as a father. Just some ideas for you. I hope you can find something in time. Good luck and happy anniversary!
J.
P.S. I just read some of the other responces and I guess i was wrong abou it being paper, oh well. Good luck anyway!

The traditional 5 year gift is wood and the modern is silverware. However, I don't think most men would care to get forks as a gift! I just bought my husband this cool digital keychain for his birthday.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Royal-Personal-Digital-Photo-Album-Ke...

If that link doesn't work, go to eBay and search for Digital Photo Keychain.

My husband loves his! Before I gave it to him, I opened it up and loaded it with pictures of the kids and I. He's gone a lot for work (Military) and takes it on all his missons.

Just an idea. Hope you are able to find something soon!

This may not be a terribly creative idea, but with two children at such young ages your husband might be crazy about the idea of the two of you getting to spend some time on your own for your anniversary.

There is a wide range of things you could do based on how much time you can get away for and how much money you can spend. If you can only get a couple of hours maybe you could go to a movie (give him a treat and take him to the movie you know he wants to see even if you really have no interest in it), take a walk on the Appalachian Trail, rent a hot air balloon, go horseback riding, get lunch/dinner or go shopping for something for him together (his choice of gift, but time together to go get it).

If you can leave the kids overnight or for the weekend either pack them off and spend the weekend at home together (don't let yourselves fall into doing chores though) or get a motel room. A room doesn't have to be expensive. Motel Six will be just as appealing as the Ritz if you're together.

If you can spare the money you can take that one step farther and head out of town. You don't even have to plan. Be spontaneous. Just get in the car (make sure the tanks full) and drive till something strikes your fancy. The adventure would be guaranteed to make it special and memorable. Just remember that he's bound to be tickled that you want to spend time with him to celebrate.

If you both want to celebrate with the kids or you can't get the time alone you could try a picnic if the weather is nice. Bundle the kids up and keep it simple with sandwiches, chips, and juice boxes. Got to a park or someplace you can let the kids enjoy the sunshine without much for you to worry about them getting into anything. Again, I think he'll be wowed by anything his wife with a busy schedule of raising two kids comes up with to tell him she's glad she married him.

Hope these ideas spark something for you and congrats!

Sorry if this is late. There is an online catalog www.signals.com and you can order a picture of the night sky on the day you were married, in your city. I did it for my husband for our first anniversary and we have it hanging in our living room. It even comes with a chart to identify the major constellations and stars. I am ordering one for my son's first birthday, too. My husband loved it. Congrats and good luck! S.

Hi,
I celebrated my 5 year this past June and wanted to do something traditional as well. Wood is the gift of tradition. So I did some research and found this website
http://www.welsh-lovespoons.co.uk/english/shopping.html

which offers handmade traditional CELTIC (keltic) wooden, love spoons! They were so sweet and endearing that I thought it would be nice to have and hang on our wall near our wedding photos. I had it engraved with a special note and even got to choose one whose symbols represented our life. They each have a story.. kinda cute. My husband thought it was very creative. The guy sent it very quickly. And it was great quality.
good luck

You could go to your local craft store and get one of the frames that are amde up like a collage . Put special pictures from your wedding day or you could do special events that happened during the 1st 5 years of your marriage . example your wedding, the birth of your children, your home and then do it again in another 5 years and see hpw you have grown as a family and a couple

Congratulations and have a great time!
