40Th Birthday Party Ideas for Husband and His Friend

I would think that you can get them both involved in planning a supprise party for their "friend". Then I would get them to bring each other there.. But I also like the 80's theme too...

Do an 80s themed party. Not hard at all to come up with things to do with that. You can easily find music, have everyone dress 80s style (big hair, colorful clothes, etc.), put up pictures of 80s culture (PacMan, Delorean car, Ronald Reagan, etc.).

Probably the easiest thing to do is plan to meet at a restaurant. Easy enough to find an excuse for that. Could even pretend it's someone else's birthday. That way, you could get both of them there without it being too complex.

A House Party with a dj that plays 80s music (tears 4 fears, depeche mode, culture club, bangles, psychedelic furs... you get the gist)

A fun theme could be a "way back when/find the inner kid" nostalgia party. Just pick out things from their childhood times that you all fondly remember (tv shows, favorite foods, candies, toys, etc). It'll bring back those nostalgic times and be a lot of fun for guests. You could even come up with trivia questions and what not and make it a running game throughout the party or have guests bring baby photos and guess who it is. You can also decorate with old photos, toys (easily found in thrift stores and Goodwill), and have a candy bar or something of the sort!

when you send out the invites, ask each guest to provide a "memory" or a "story" about the BD boys. Using this, make it the theme of the party.....

Create scrapbooks for each of the guys, using what the guests bring & what resources you have on hand. We did this for my husband's 50th & it was a BLAST! He has 6 sisters & they were really into the story-telling! Some of them wrote their stories, some just told them & I wrote them.

& about 2 months prior to his BD, I told my husband that I wanted to journal some of his fav childhd stories. Periodically I asked him ?s & he really enjoyed answering them....often going off on tangents we never expected! I told him the reason for my journaling was so that our sons would "know" his stories .......& he totally bought into it!

Sharing the journal/scrapbook was part of the entertainment at the party. The guests all loved hearing & adding to the stories. There were moments when the entire crowd was laughing hysterically! Oh, & I included some basic lists/?s too......"cars Mike owned" - listing his all-time fav......."cities Mike's visited"......"best fishing trips"..... fav color....fav childhd memory....etc.

We served all of his fav foods, fav desserts, & had lots of vintage-style candy from all thru his years. It was fun listening to everybody comment on their memories of the food & candies! Have fun!

Good suggestions.. the easiest way to give a big surprise party is to hold it the week before the actual birthday.. they will not expect it at all.. then you 2 families can just have a nice birthday dinner on the actual night of the birthdays..

I love the idea of a double party. Casino parties are big with guys if they like to gamble. Casino can set up at a place or your home. Also not sure if you are by a winery but that is also a fun idea. Or sometimes they will do wine tasting at your house. Have fun with the planning!

I gave my husband a welcome to the middle ages party when he turned 40. It had a renaissance theme. I fought some stuff on ebay to decorate with and gave a prize for the best costume. I did it at our church as the room was free. Someone gave me a cd with renaissance music also.
