Hello,

My husband will be turning 40 soon and I would like to get a good birthday cake - any suggestions? We live in the Mill Creek Valley (Carthage/Hartwell) area.

What can I do next?

It would be a hike to Milford, but Jerry's Cheescake is the best cake place ever! They serve regular cake too taht is EXCELLENT. I think it is all in the icing!

Honestly, I like Giant Eagle cakes (much better than Kroger). Unless you want something much more expensive like a chocolate raspberry torte cake from a bakery. yummmmm

If you have a Kroger, WalMart, or Marsh store close then you are all ready half way there. I prefer the whipped frosting because it isn't as sweet. You can order the cake the day before and pick it up on the way home and can pick and choose the type of cake you want from Almond to Red Velvet depending on his personal favorite flavor.

Some people prefer cheesecake or ice cream cake. Many of the above stores can provide these types as well. Dairy Queen, etc. have a variety of flavors in ice cream cakes.

Good luck.

I don't know where your located. Jungle Jims in cincinnati has GREAT cakes. :) I don't think they are that unreasonably priced or anything crazy either. Sams and Krogers cakes are ok...Best icing is the buttermilk where ever you get it from!

R.,
Is he depressed or dreading turning 40?? You could have a lot of fun with this and go all out BLACK!! When my husband turned 40 I had a huge suprise b-day party where everyone was told to wear black (funeral attire)clothes, we had black balloons, cupcakes, you name it. He was shocked! It was a blast. Go wild! Try Kroger or Wal-mart,either have good cakes.
Have fun!!

The Wyoming Pastry Shop on Wyoming Ave has the most incredible cakes -- very moist with great icing. And their cake decorator is really good. Once you try the Pastry Shop, you'll never want to eat a Kroger or Wal-Mart cake again.

I have an excellent recipe for a homemade cake! We all call it MOM's CAKE - it is wonderful --- I am guessing you want to get one since you are so busy... Giant Eagle usually have good cakes and if you have a Cold Stone in your area - they are wonderful... be sure to get ganache on it! Yummmm!

i had a Drum cake made for my DH's 40th. He is a drummer so she put a drum set of rice krispie treats on a round cake. Very cute. We have an IGA here that makes cakes too. I don't know if you want ideas for cakes or a cakemaker.

Hope it works out.

If you want a good birthday cake then you should make it yourself from scratch. Otherwise your frosting will be half shortening and your cake lord only knows if you go to a bakery.
