4 Year Old Son Asking How Babies Get Inside and Out of the Mommy

My very curious 4 year old son has been asking questions about how babies get inside the mommy and how the babies come out. I'm not pregnant but we know several people who are. At first the questions were easy but he's been very persistent and the questions are getting harder to answer. I'm not sure how much to tell him and I'm wondering what some of you have told your kids. Thanks!

What can I do next?

We told him God put the baby there :)

I told one of mine it takes a mommy and a daddy and then God makes the baby. I have also told them the baby lives in the womb or uterus and it is like a big balloon filled with water. That is cool, lol!

When it is time for baby to come out, I said mom's have a special hole for babyes to come out. If asked if it hurts, I said, yes but it is worth it, because "you" are so precious to me.

I don't belive in giving kids more information the needed, let's let our kids be kids. Just answer what you have to, as little as possible and in in doubt ask him what he thinks. That can be great fun!

Daddy puts a seed in Mommy's tummy, the doctor takes it out. (all were c-sections)

Let your son watch A Baby Story on TLC with you. I am pregnant with #3 and my oldest who is 2 1/2 watches it with me every afternoon. We get to talk about how some babies have to come out of mommy's tummies and some baby's come out of mommy's bottoms. We talk about how sometimes it hurts to have a baby and mommy might cry, but that I'll be ok.

My 3.5 year old knows the truth. I just delivered her baby sister in October and you can't anything past this one. She was the first to approach me and ask me if babies came out of "my body." "My body" is equal to vagina, lol. She's very shy.

I am all about honesty and being upfront. I don't see the use in beating around the bush and delaying the inevitable.

Hope this helps you.

My mother's philosophy was "If you're old enough to ask, you're old enough to know." So she never used cute words or anything with me. I was the only 4 year old who actually knew that babies came out of the vagina, not the navel (like the other little kids in daycare). Just tell the truth.

I told my dauther that mommy and daddy loved each other very much and asked God for a baby and he gave us one and put it in mommy belly. I never liked the stork idea and with the world we live in today I think its better to be more forward with the truth but put a spin to it. I told her that we went to the doctor to have him remove the Gift God gave us. Good Luck.

I'm not an "expert" but I don't know why we have to give ALL the information to little ones as soon as they ask. Can't they learn a little at a time? My best friend has a 5 year old and she's just concentrating on teaching him how to ride a bike, that the Golden Rule is to do as you would want them to do to you (not do as they do to you), etc. When he asked about my baby when I was pregnant, we just told him that the baby "grows" in moms, and that the doctor takes him out (not a c-section but I certainly wouldn't have wanted to do it without him!). The end. When he gets old enough to ask more specifics, we'll give him more specifics.

As a very young girl my mom told me about babies and sex. She was very technical and didn't use special words for anything. She was also a hippie so maybe thats why she did what she did, but I grew up knowing everything and I think that was the right thing for her to do. I never grew up thinking I had to be married to have a baby but only because I knew anyone could have a baby. Now I'm married with 2 kids and I plan to explaian life to them the same way.
