4 Month Old with Watery Eyes, Runny Nose, Cough

My 4 month old daughter jsut get her 4 month shots a couple of days ago. She got a minor fever that night and was a little fussy but after that was fine. Well the next day I noticed she had a preety bad runny nose. And she is coughing but I think its just from choking on the snot and drool. But I also noticed her eyes are really watery, its like she is crying all the time. She isnt running a fever, and she seems happy, except for bein very tired. Is this a common reaction to the shots? SHould I be worried? SHe has been like this the last two days...

Also, she is eating ok, but she is really tired and she has been having like 3 bowel movements a day, which are runny

What can I do next?

It most definitely can be a reaction to her shots. Watch her carefully for any other symptoms. I'd also contact the doctor or nurse hotline to let them know of the reaction. How are her eating and pooping?

If she's in good spirits, she might have just caught a cold at the dr's office. I believe the shots take your kids immune system for a ride those first few days after, working on the ingredients and all, and much easier to pickup and develop a cold when it's down like that.

Maybe warm washcloth to her forehead, cheeks and on tearducts to help with mucus, some children's vics on chest at night or humidifier in room, and ride it out:) More bowel movements are great = flushing the mucus and germs:)

Of course you can check back with your doc, but it's not unusual for babies to have a mild reaction after shots. You are probably 'suffering' more than she is. If it continues, I'd call and just check. It's also allergy time and stuff is in the air which might make her a bit more susceptible to runny eyes as well.

She could have picked up a cold from the doctors office.

I agree with DeAnna and Katrina. According to those symptoms, it seems like that she has developed a cold.

I think I remember some babies (friends kids) having some cold-like symptoms after shots. Did her pediatrician give you a paper of what to expect? I think it's a good sign that she has cold symptoms without a fever. The fact that she is in good spirits is very encouraging. I'd wait another 2-3 days and if she doesn't improve, call the doc. If her symptoms get worse, I'd call immediately.

Good luck!

It seems as if she has a cold... which may or may not have resulted from the shot, or maybe being in the office around sick kids. As long as she is eating ok I would not worry about it for a few days. If the fever spikes back up I suggest call the ped.
