My son's 3rd birthday is coming up next month. I am not sure what I should do. If i throw him a birthday party i won't really have that many people to invite. Should I give invitations to his class at school? I am just at a loss on what I should do I young so I don't know many people who have kids so i don't know if a party is a good idea. Or maybe a party at school would that be okay. I don't know any ideas i would appreciate.

What can I do next?

Hi C.,
My boy Adam was 3 in February and I opted for the school party - it was easier on me for organizing, as I got his teacher to help with games, and we had the party early afternoon - finished by the time most parents do pickup. And clean up was a breeze with many hands to help. I got the 'outside' people to come to the pre-school and it was great.
Hope this helps,
G. H
PS I am also a single mom, work full time.

Hello C.,
It is GREAT to hear you are a single mom improving her education/life! I too was a single mother for 13 years to a wonderful son!
In my experience (we are raising 2 nieces 4 & 7yrs.) a small party with you and maybe a few friends of yours & his would be just fine! To make it special, hold it at a pool, or park! That way he can run & play while also celebrating His day! I just had my 7 yr.old B.D. party at Quiet Waters park in Deerfeild. I ordered pizza, invited just 5 friends of hers; and everyone, including the parents enjoyed the fresh air- kids had fun on play ground; and we finished the day at their water park! It was very cost effective also! Good luck & Happy Birthday to your little man! God bless you both-always!
Sincerely,
Kathy N.

Why don't you talk to the school and see if they have any traditions in place. Bringing some mini-cupcakes to school and some coloring activity cards may be enough to celebrate the occasion without overdoing it.

C., birthdays parties can go in ANY direction that you choose. At this age a cake, a few friends are just fine. SO MANY parents have gotten into the idea that the birthday party has to be the biggest and the best - they seem to forget who the party is for - the child NOT the parents. The number of the kids is not important. Yes a party at his school/childcare facility is great - simple and easy. If you want to do something different contact Ceramics On Wheels Phylis ###-###-####. She will bring the party to you. Plastercrafts, SunCatchers, SandArt, Textile Are and or Photo Novelties are available. Good Luck! No need to stress out!

It's perfectly acceptable to invite the class. My son's class last year had so many parties and we all would invite the whole class. It was nice because we got close with all the parents and everyone knew that there would at least be a few kid at their kid's party. The places most people had them at were Pump it Up (a place with indoor bounce houses), gymnastics places, Build a Bear. We had ours at Flamingo Gardens and it was really nice.

If you decide to have a party and invite his classmates you could at least meet all of the other mothers. have fun!!!

Yes - if you want to have a party for him, by all means have one!!! We've always had parties for our boys (ages 2 and 5) - at age 3, he will understand what's going on and will be excited - even if there are only a few people there! You can include him in picking the invitations and theme for the party (curious george,trucks/cars....). I even made birthday cakes for my boys (pirate ship, boat, elmo...) - there's a ton of info online and it's really not that hard (and much cheaper than paying publix or wetakethecake...). As far as inviting his classmates, whatever you feel comfortable doing - I've never invited my boys' entire class, just their buddies - but I do have friends who have invited the whole class (it just gets expensive if you are having a party somewhere like mygym or jumpers....) If you need help w/ideas, let me know - I love planning parties :-)
