39 Years Old Mom Wanting to Have Another Baby

It is nice to hear about another woman who wants what I do. We are not trying yet and my husband rarely drinks, so we don't have that problem. Our problem is financial. Anyway, the book that is mentioned below is how I got pregnant with my daughter 8 years ago. It sounds like we are around the same age with daughters around the same age. Too bad we live so far away. Anyway, tracking cycles got me pregnant within 1 1/2 monts after reading the book.

I was lucky enough to get PG easily at 38 and nearly 40, but before my husband and I started trying, I warned him that if we had troubles one of the first steps would be getting him tested. Yes it can be hard for some women to get pregnant, but the statistics I read say that a lot of the time there are male issues when couples are infertile. At your age, I'd be worried about wasting time with the assumption that the major issue was your age (obviously I don't know your story).
Definitely follow the information in Taking Charge of your Fertility (or on websites such as www.fertilityfriend.com) to make sure you time intercourse well. You can also keep track of whether you are really ovulating. Good luck!

Get a referral to a fertility clinic. Then start doing IUIs. I'm 39 and we tried for a year to get pregnant w/o success and even using Clomid. But we got pregnant on our very first IUI at the fertility clinic. IUIs are not invasive and not that expensive either. Take Clomid or Letrozole with the IUI (usually fertility clinics direct you to do this.) I actually recommend Letrozole over Clomid. You take it days 2 - 6 of your cycle if you do it at UCSF Fertility Clinic.

Also, go to acupuncture at the same time, at least once a week. This also helps.

So the UCSF Fertility Clinic with Letrozole on days 2-6 of my cycle and the IUI is what worked for us. They will also monitor your developing egg(s) on day 11 of your cycle. In my case the egg was ready but my body didn't release it. So they have you take a shot to release the egg. I believe that this very precise timing is also what helped us.

The other responses you have so far are great! I would add to get your progesterone levels checked if you haven't already. Women over 30 (that's me, too!) often have low progesterone, and it can be solved simply by using the OTC progesterone cream that's meant for menopausal women. For me, it meant a healthy baby girl & not another miscarriage. Well worth the price of the test & $20 worth of cream! Now, the second baby, I had no problem conceiving or carrying without the cream, even.

First, I wanted to wish you and your husband all the best in your baby endeavors. Like many others who responded, I would also recommend the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility". It is a great resource whether you're trying to conceive or not. After trying many different things in order to conceive our first child, we were finally successful with IVF. She was born when I was 33 years old. We have since gone on to have 3 more children (all very pleasant surprises); our last when I was 41 years old. For me, the IVF cycle and pregnancy somehow helped regulate my cycles and allowed me to conceive on my own after that. I think alot of prayers helped me tremendously. The ovulation predictor kits have been successful for many of my friends. Many people say to avoid stress and the worry that goes along with trying to conceive. Take a vacation, don't think about it soooo much, relax a bit more..... I know it's really difficult, but I think my success conceiving baby 2, 3 and 4 was due to the fact that we weren't "trying". We always went into with the opinion that if we conceived, great, if not, we were happy with the family that we have.

Have you ever read the book "Take Charge of Your Fertility"? I cannot remember the author but if you google it you will find it. I read that book before trying to conceive my daughter and got pregnant the first month. I know several others who used it with the similar results. It has a lot of useful information in it other than trying to get pregnant too. It is a really good book.

Get the book, Taking Control of Your Fertility. It will give you plenty of good suggestions...

Hi - I had a baby at 38 and another at 40 but did have several issues and miscarriages prior to both healthy births.

Three things that I think will make it happen for you. One, have a ton of sex! :-) You may be ovulating sooner or later than you think. I found I ovulated just four or five days after my period. Two, acupuncture. If nothing else, it calms and relaxes you and gets your body ready to cary a healthy baby to term. And third, relax, have fun and don't try to hard. I think stress is the number one reason you may not get pregnant.

I am going to get graphic here, so please excuse the TMI. I had my first son at 36 after trying this and my second son at 40. I had miscarriages in between, but it worked every time because I too was having a hard time getting pregnant otherwise.

Make sure he is on top and when he's all done, stay on your back for a while, but plant your feet up right under your rear and tilt your rear in the air. Hold it like that for about 2 minutes. Afterwords, lay on your left side for about 1/2 an hour. Don't get up at all until after you've done this.

Some people say it doesn't work, but I'm telling you it worked for me and for 3 other friends who couldn't get pregnant. We each have 2 or more kids now. I hope it works for you, and if not, I pray the Lord will bless you with your hearts desire!
