This is my second pregnancy, but the back pain was never this bad. My lower back feels like it is on fire 24 hours a day. I am not having any other pains. I excerise and walk, but I am not over doing it. Anyone have any ideas how to ease the pain.

So What Happened?

Thanks so much for the advice. Its not contractions, just bad pain. I went to my Dr, she said not to worry. I have been going to the chiro for about 2 months now, I just hope it will help with the back pain during labor!

I had really bad back pain with my 2nd pregnancy as well. I tried sleeping with a pillow between my knees at all times and my doc said it was safe to use a heating pad as well. HTH

Not to scare you, but CALL YOU DOCTOR! My Mom thought it was just "all the extra baby weight" that was hurting her back. I wasn't due for another 6 weeks, so she went to work. At 9:30am she went to her boss's office and told him that she thought she needed to go see her Doctor because the pain was so bad. He pulled her mom (my g-ma) off the floor (Mom and G-ma worked together) and had G-ma take Mom to the Doc. Doc sent her to the hospital telling her "Do not go home to get anything. Go to the hospital now! You're in Labor." Mom called Dad at work and Dad RUSHED to the hospital and almost missed my birth. My Mom says that when she got to the hospital (Directly across the street from the Doctor's office) that the nurse gave her a gown and walked out so she could undress. The only problem was that she couldn't reach below her knees anymore because I was already in the birth canal. I was born at 12:56pm. That's about 3-3:30 hours after she told her boss she needed to "go see the Doctor"! SHE ALMOST HAD ME AT WORK! (kind of)

Anyway, CALL THE DOCTOR! 35 weeks is fine to give birth. typically the complications at this point are the same as a full term birth! Let us know! ~J.

I Hope it isnt labor pains like some of the others are mentioning. But I am a true believer in acupuncture. Be careful though because i know that it can bring on labor. Also, try floating in a pool to relieve some of the weight and tension down there. I hope you find some relief and comfort soon!

See a chiropractor with experience with pg women and infants and babies. That's what I did for my 2nd pregnancy (I went twice a week) and it took ALL the pain away. You'll get an adjustment on your back, and it will go a long way towards your comfort. I felt no pain during my first pg, but my 2nd was unbelievable. I am grateful for those chiropractic visits. I also brought my newborn for one and my children for them whenever needed. I still my chiropractor from time to time. Call around and find someone great.

I would first contact your doctor to make sure you are not in the early stages of back labor. If your doctor has assured you its not, then I would suggest serious back stretches, maybe a pregnancy massage or a chiropractic appointment. You may be out of alignment. I know I felt 100% times better when I got adjusted but make sure your chiropractor is specialized in pregnancy adjustments. Good luck and I hope some of the suggestions are helpful.

I was told to use the ThermoPacks.(they come in a RED box and are disposeable. Kind of pricy, but worth it for the pain) Not the Back ones, they were too big and bulky (I am small person) They work great for about 6-9 hours. They stick right to you and you can try to keep up with #1. I used these for Sciatica and lower back pain. That got me through Months 6,7 and 8. I am due to deliver any day now. And Forntunatly the only Back pain I have is BACK LABOR. All the Sciatica stuff and other cramps are gone.

Simple yoga where you are sitting fairly upright on pillows - instead of lying on your back, or standing.

Knee in, one at a time and across as much as the bump will let you

I had back pain when I was that far along. As it turns out the pain was contractions. I wasn't in labor but it was the beginning of it all. Also, I ended up having back labor because of the way the baby was positioned(her spine was against my spine). So talk to your doctor or even call your child birth class instrustor to see if there is anything that you can do. I sat on an exercise ball alot...it seemed to help.

In my 1st pregnancy, I tried a support belt for the back pain. In my 2nd pregnancy, at about 6 months, I discovered prenatal yoga classes. In my 3rd pregnancy, I did prenatal yoga from the start, and lo and behold, no lower back pain! Water broke, I went to class anyway, went from there to the hospital, and baby came out an hour later. Aside from a group of other nice pregnant women, the reason it works was explained as this: stretching your hamstring muscles in the back of your legs relieves low back pain because those muscles connect to your pelvic bones which are in your lower back. Oh yes, but regardless, ask your OB/medical professional about your pain and what to do about it.

I agree that a chiropractor would be a good idea. I had terrible back pain in my 2nd pregnancy, especially my left hip. I saw a chiropractor regularly, which not only relieved the pain, but helped my body prepare for labour. I delivered my second baby after 5 hours of active labour, compared to 26 with my first!
Good luck

The only time by back hurt like that I was in labor, so that could be a possibility, or you may be having the brakston hicks contractions; that's the bodies way of getting ready for labor. Best Wishes.

Oy Ve sweetie! I had back labor and it's not fun! It wasn't horrible, but not fun. I have a bad back as it is and carried all the way in, which is why at 9.5 months I looked more like I was 6 months. Keep going to your chiropractor, just make sure they turn you on your side and not face down. Also, find one that does NVD (neurovascular dynamics) because it will help with the labor and delivery by keeping your body systems truly aligned.

OOPS sorry.. I just realized that this post was from well over a year ago and HIGHLY doubt you are still pregnant! I hope it went well :D

Call your doctor, you could be in early labor. Back pain is the worst!! I didn't have it until AFTER I gave birth, as we know how weak our ab muscles are. But take it easy, do some stretches through out the day and perhaps get a pregnancy massage. Although at this late stage not sure that would even be comfortable. Sorry to hear about your pain - I know it can be debilitatin. Take care of yourself - call the doctor.

I had terrible back pain with my first pregnancy. Not so for my second one because I found a great chiropractor who specializes in preganant women. My insurance covered, but I would've paid out of pocket because my relief was immediate and I felt that he helped to set my hips straight so that I could push my baby out faster. Don't get an unnecesary c-section! Please see a chiropractor first!

I just got done telling another gal my story.
I had back pains before I even got prenant with my first and went to a chiropractor twice, which helped untill three years later when I got pregnant. I just delt with the back pain then, but my second pregnancy I had another chiropractor tell me, first of all, Tylenol is ok to take during pregnancy. It is the saffest asprin for pregnancy. Second, he said to crawl up and down a long stretch of carpted floor in your home because it helps loosen up that area of the back.
Yes, it could also be back labor, so going to your doctor is probably a wise idea!
I know how you feel!!! Hang in there, you're almost done.

I found by using a hand held massager against my back while I was sitting really helped. I put the massager at full blast and just leaned against it. Those darn back muscles can get very tight. Good luck and congrats!
