I am 31 weeks pregnant. All of a sudden my belly has gotten huge! I haven't gained any weight and the only place I look any bigger is my belly. I am due March 22nd but look like I am about to deliver any day. Plus I feel like she has dropped some and my belly feels really stretched to the max and the muscles are sore. Is this normal? It kinda happened suddenly and people are starting to comment on my size. I don't remember being this big at this point with my son. Should I call my doctor?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I looked at some pics on the internet of women in thier 31st week and I look pretty much the same! I guess b/c I am short it makes me look even bigger! I am starting my 8th month after all. I have an ultrasound on Tuesday and will definatley still ask the doctor if everything is okay with my size.

Congratulations!! I am due with my son at the end of March also:) March 30th actually. I have to tell you that my belly is really huge right now too. My husband was just commenting on it last night. I read something that said that it is usually around this time that the baby starts gaining a lot of weight. Well my belly hangs really low and I am bigger then my first pregnancy. I am having a lot of aches and pains too. But I just know that my body is trying to adjust to the extra belly weight. Someone had mentioned support which I think is a good idea.

Blessings:)

I doubt this is a situation meriting an additional visit to the doctor. When I hit this stage, I too felt and looked enormous, and if you haven't gained any extra weight, it's going to look bigger by comparison. I worked in retail during my pregnancy, and was subject to frequent comments about the size of my belly. It can be very disconcerting. I actually had a stranger look pointedly at my belly and say "good luck with that" after learning that I was not, in fact, having twins. If you start having other symptoms, talk to your doctor, of course, but this is most likely just the difference between one child/pregnancy and another.

Sounds normal to me. you will typically be larger with a second baby than with a first. I was big with my daughter gained 50lbs she was my first, My son , I was huge with him, and I only gained 30lbs with him.

The same thing happened to me. At 6 months, I looked 10 months pregnant. With the second baby your stomach muscles aren't what they used to be. So you end up looking bigger sooner. But if you feel like something is wrong, always call you doctor.

Hey A.,
It has been my experience that girls will cause you to be larger. I think that is why mothers and daughters sometimes don't get along, LOL! They make you larger, prego brain is worse and they take your good hair and skin, LOL! On a serious note, I was larger with my daughter than with my first, my son. It was due to double the normal fluid and the scale did not say anything either. You do need to mention that you are larger then you think you should be and that you're concerned about there being too much fluid. With me, they thought there was something wrong with my daughter's stomach or intestines and they act like it's not that serious but they did take her for her first x-ray right after she was born to make sure that it wasn't. I'm sorry but I don't remember what it is called but the doc did say that it does happen and that it is correctable. I hope I didn't freak you out too much. The docs are used to pregnant woman freaking out time to time so go ahead and give them a call and ask for the doc to actually call you back and talk to you or see you. Congratulations and good luck!

One woman can carry different babies in different ways. I actually had twins in my third pregnancy and looked no different than in my first pregnancy. Some women never look pregnant at all, while others carry the baby in such a way that they look fully done by five and one-half months, which is about where you're at. I always looked like I could drop the baby any minute by the time I was that far along, so I would say you are perfectly normal and not to worry. If you have pain other than stretching pains, call the doctor. Otherwise, not to worry!

First, I have to say congratulations! It sounds like your experiencing typical end-of-pregnancy symptoms. However, you know your body better than anyone, and if something doesn't seem right to you, just go to the doctor. They are used to this. Plus, you have two lives to care for right now. And sometimes the unexpected happens. I ended up with HELLP syndrom, which is a severe form of pre-eclampsia towards the end of my pregnancy. Thankfully, I had great doctors who watched me like a hawk and made excellent decisions. My point is, pregnancy can be unpredictable for even the healthiest women. If you need your doctor to check you out so you know you and your baby are healthy and on track, then do it. Trust me, your doctor has had much more worrisome mothers-to-be than you.

Good luck!

Have you checked with doctor to make sure it's only one baby? When they "drop" for birthing, it's lower down and you living on a farm makes a difference. Sometimes, even with the first, you could deliver early, even a month or 6 weeks. Yes, call the doctor, get check, the due date may even be wrong - I was due in March also, but my first (a boy) was born in Feb. I knew from the very first that I was pregnant, and got sick immediately also.

I did that with my second, too, and I am also short(only 5 ft). My center of gravity was thrown way off to the point i was almost afraid to climb stairs. Also, my stomach was always showing because my tops wouldn't cover it and I wore the under-the-belly pants. I think that your muscles are more relaxed after being stretched from a previous pregnancy. I don't think there is anything wrong with your size as long as your weight is stable and within range.

Im sure you are beautiful. This is normal. Some carry babies differently and look bigger than others. My girlfriend who is pregnant right now and due the same time you are is very very big and she was very very big with her first child too. It is normal and she had a normal sized child (no one could believe it!!). She truly looks like she is having twins in the belly area only. She has a good attitude about it but I will advise you to get those belly support belts to hold your stomach up to help with your back and stretch marks. She said it is saving her life right now. You can get them at any preg. store. Also, she and I had our last baby 22 months ago and I bought her one of those pregnancy pillows that wraps around your body and she bought me one. It is absolute heaven and she said is the only reason why she slept at all toward the end because she was so uncomfortable. I absolutely loved mine too!! My husband called it my 'other husband'. I would invest in those two things for sure. Goodluck and congrats on your baby girl. She is having her first girl too and is sooo excited!

I would check with your dr. I was 32 weeks pg with my son and my belly measured about 52 weeks. My dr didn't do anything but then I didn't know to ask. When I finally went in to have him he was almost 10 pounds and I has 3 GALLONS of water surrounding him. Again my dr didn't say anything but when I looked it up there is a condition about too much water around the baby. You might want to check it out. Hope this helps.

I always have stuck way out fromt but I think after the first pregnancy I really fall out quicker and farther. I had some really sore round ligaments too! I had to be realy careful that my body and belly moved at the same speed or I would have some incredibally painful sides. Take care and be carful not to let people's comments get to you! My last pregnancy I had one lady ask me if I was carrying triplets! I refrained from saying how rude she was but I was so irritated! I really have allways looked as I I were carrying twins regaurdless of weather they were my biggest babies or the smaller ones. Don't let people freak you out that the baby must be huge either! It can get really hard toward the end to deal with peoples comments! Hope some of that helps you!

Sincerely,
K. B
