31 Weeks Pregnant W/ Toxemia

I am 31 weeks pregnant, was diagonsed w/ Toxemia at 28 weeks. I see the dr once a week and go for Nonstress tests 2 times per week. Dr said I have mild toxemia and its under control. But today I went in for my NST and my BP was 174/94 and I have had a headache for the past 4 days that wont go away. Now this evening I seem to be "leaking" fluid of some sort, it doesnt appear to be urine, but it does have a bad odor, is this something I should call the dr for or is it normal to be doing that at this stage in the pregnancy? With my first pregnancy I had no complications it was pretty much perfect and I didnt have to deal w/ anything while pregnant with him, so I feel like im going through pregnancy for the first time.

So What Happened?

Hi All! Thank you for your responces. I went to the ER that night. I was NOT leaking amniotic fluid. I guess it was just urine...which seemed odd to me, but they said it wasnt amniotic fluid. But they found I have a bladder infection. My Toxemia is under control and they monitored baby and baby is just fine. Yes I am on bedrest..have been since I was 19 weeks along due to low fluid. I see my DR on Tuesday and we will see what else she has to say! Thank You all for taking the time to reply to me

Go to the hospital now. Toxcemia is very dangerous! I had it when I gave birth and they induced me as soon as they found it.

that is not normal!! RUN TO THE HOSPITAL NOW!!! you are risking stroke with that increases blood pressure. it sounds like your amniotic fluid is leaking. foul smelling amniotic fluid is called chiroamniotis, both you and the baby could get septic (you could go into labor at any time), sepsis can be DEADLY (especially for babies). you need IV antibiotics NOW. RUN NOW, DON'T WAIT.

Call the doctor for anything like that that doesn't seem normal. No question is "stupid", I tell my girls. It may be nothing, but that would give you peace. I would think that the doctor would want to know about any change you are experiencing during this time. Please call, for you and your precious one.

HT-
I had toxemis with my first born. My blood pressure was ridiculous and my face, feet, and hands had swelled up like crazy. I was eventually put on bed rest at 38 weeks and was induced at 39 weeks. Not much you can do but try to stay off your feet ( no easy I know). Good luck and keep us posted.

You shouldnt have even wasted time typing your question...GO TO THE DOCTOR! It is silly to risk your health and the health of the baby waiting for responses from a website...seriously...do what is best for the two of you and at least call. I will say a prayer for you and the baby. I hope all turns out well!

HT,
I am an OB nurse and u should absolutely go to see your doc. The headache is a bad sign when you have toxemia!!! If your think your leaking you could be leaking amniotic fluid and should also get that checked. It looks like you see a healthcare professional 3 times in a week. PLEASE if you don't go to the dr ASAP, which is what I recommend, tell someone the next time you see a healthcare professional.

Please call your OB or midwife if you are leaking fluid. If they are not available go to the ER. If your water has broken this is a serious issue and could lead to an infection. I don't mean to scare you, but this is a serious issue.

CALL YOUR DOCTOR!!! Toxemia is the old name for pre-eclampsia. The doctors are monitoring you very closely 3X a week for a reason. Not to scare you, but according to the pre-eclampsia foundation, worldwide, conservatively, an estimated 76,000 women and 500,000 babies die annually from this condition according to their 2007 annual report.

I hope you are on bedrest, if not...try to take it easy and stay off your feet as much as you can. I had pre-eclampsia and I was hospitalized around when my diastolic.. I think that is number that is supposed to be lower... bp was around 110. It is not good for you or the baby.

Your doctor totally needs to know about fluid leak, in my non-medical opinion. I would get on the phone right away.

Do everthing your doctor says. Are you seeing a perinatolist, or a high risk doctor specialist?

Good luck. I will say a prayer for you and your baby tonight.

Hi, youre water broke. If you're not already at the hospital, it's time to go. They'll induce you, which always takes awhile. Bring a good book to read as it's a fairly boring process waiting for your contractions to start.

FYI, my first son was born 4 weeks early after my water broke. There's more and more evidence that babies born a little early develop sensory issues. It often effects touch, like kids who can't stand tags on their clothes. Mine has very sensitive taste issues. He's now 9 and his diet hasn't changed much since he was 3. I don't mean to scare you, just keep an eye out since sensory issues can start showing up early. At least you'll know what's going on vs being inthe dark about it.

The good news is your baby will sleep a lot the first few weeks!

Congratulations!

You should definitely see your doctor if you're leaking fluid, especially with a foul odor, it could be a sign of infection.

Call your Doctor ASAP! Better to err on the side of caution, when my blood pressure went that high at 35 weeks, I was induced and had a baby 36 hours later :) I had preclampsia...and almost stroked out my blood pressure went so high. DO NOT MESS AROUND WITH THIS!! My cousin had toxemia with two of her pregnancies and was put on bed rest and meds. Now go call your doctor!!

I had toxemia with all 4 pregnancys. Headaches are part of the high blood pressure. Let the dr. know. Toxemia is nothing to mess around with. My 1st was stillborn because of it so don't take it lightly. Stay away from salt! No soups ot Chinese with MSG. Drink lots of water so you can p all the swelling out. Good luck to you honey.

Hi, HT! You are younger than my oldest son, and I teach parenting courses by distance to blind and visually impaired parents. If you haven't called your doctor already about the leaking you mentioned, I'd call immediately-that's what I'd tell my students, without a doubt. My bp was very high during my first pregnancy. I was hospitalized for a few days at first and when it went up again, I was induced but closer to term than you. Good luck. If you can, please let me know what happened.
