I would agree with another poster and suggest that you get him an "experience" rather than a toy - like tickets to the zoo or an upcoming children's concert.

See if there are any show's coming up in your area which you could buy tickets to. Such as Dora, Clifford, Sesame Street, etc. It's not a toy but he would still enjoy the experience of going!

I'm having the same problem with my kids. My kids have everything, and I'm not really sure what to tell everyone what to get them for Christmas. What my husband and I finally decided was arts and crafts supplies. It's the gift that you can never have too much of because they run out, dry out, or get used up.

Every year in Rolling Oaks Malls there is a couple who sets up a table by Sears. They sell Music CDs that have about 10 songs on the CD. They are children's songs and each song sings the child's name somewhere in the song. My three children and my 8 yr old neice love their CDs and carry them everywhere. We take turns playing each child's CD in the car and it's cute to see each child's face light up when the other children are singing "their" name/song.

a certificate from the bank is always a great idea. It is a gift that gets better with time.

I would probably get him some type of arts and craft stuff. My kids have alot of this stuff and they always run out so I just take out new stuff that they got and they will always beable to make their little masterpieces. You could also get him some books or clothes or even movies. You can never have to many clothes and/or books.

Hi A., I had a nephwew that had everything so on his fouth birthday I got him a disposable camera and a cute little photoalbum. He and his mom took pictures and had them developed and then he made his own photo book that he could look at anytime he wanted. He still enjoys looking at it!

I tell my close family members and friends to buy them a cheap toy at the dollar store to unwrap and then I ask them to put money in their savings account or a bonds check. If you don't feel comfortable doing this get them a unique gift such as a sign that says "His Name's Room" or something like that. I too have many toys from my three children and I'm constantly tell everyone don't buy them anymore gifts or I tell them in advance that we will be donating all the toys to a charity. Another idea I just thought about was a children's book that puts his name in it I saw the ad in the coupons from Sunday. A gift cert. to thier favortive store or restaurant. If I come up with anything else I'll let you know. Hope this helps...

What about arts and craft stuff? You can never have too much playdoh or finger paints. The color wonder stuff is neat. No mess.

The Discovery store has lots of unique gifts, as well as Lily's Kids.

other ideas:

-- a money bank. I think Leapfrog makes one that sorts the money and helps kids learn how to count.

-- a sleeping bag with a favorite character on it.

You can get him a gift certificate from The Mad Potter (a paint your own pottery place) or another one in your area. There is one on 35th and Lamar. I used to work at the one in Houston and it is such a cool place you can maybe purchase a piece for him and then get the gift certificate for the time and wrap them together. Hope this helps.

Everybody needs new crayons. What about one of those trains that spell out your name? Should be easy enough to find on the internet, or even make if your are in to that kind of thing.

Three year old boys love stories.. specially if it has their pictures on it.. so my suggestion to you, if you have the time.. to look for pictures of him and your son... and make up a scrapbook and tell their story.. write down all the stuff they play about.. the things they imagine and make up... fun stuff.. have your child draw in it.. and you too.. it would be a fun creative project.. and I bet he would love it.. Reading a book that has you and your favorite friend in it.. and to read all the fun things you do now, or things that you both can do together when you're old, or even narrate something funny they did.. memories of when they started walking.. etc.. kids love that and well his mom will love it too.. you would have to put some work into it.. but if this is a child that you are fairly close to.. this might be just the right gift if you're up for it.
I'm one for these type of gifts.. and if you'd like to give a savings bond with the photo-story book.. you can do that too.

Also if you want to give them something to remember, if they do not alredy have pictures of both of them playing.. you can also hire a photographer... :) (Just in case you like this idea.. I am proffessional photographer)

Either way it, pictures sometimes are the best gift you can get.. It would forever treasured, and something to remember always.

how does he feel about trains? thomas the tank engine more specifically? i saw a toys r us commerical last night where there is a floor pad the child draws on (also, can only draw on pad, colors won't work on floor or walls, etc) and there is a drawing device that draws train tracks on the pad, you place thomas the train on the tracks the child drew and it goes whereever the tracks go. it seemed pretty cool. i have a daughter so its out of the question for me. but good luck. oh also i saw there was a thomas the train they ride. it goes on some tracks that come with it or any smooth surface also at toys r us.
