3 Week Old, Red Around Eyes, Dry Stuffy Nose, Sneezing

I am not too worried but my husband keeps bringing it up so I figured I would ask on here. My 3 week old, in the last 2 days has gotten a dry stuffy nose, she sounds congested but nothing comes out with the booger sucker. She sneezes on occassion and around her eyes looks a little red . Not her eyeballs but her eyelids and such. and her eyes appear watery and slightly goopy. Any ideas?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Glad to say no infection or anything. Just a little blocked tear ducts. Thanks for everyones advice!

she probably has a cold my baby would get gloopy stuff like sleepy and the Dr said it is a babies way of getting rid of an infection-as long as she is not feverish I would not worry but to be safe call the Pediatrician and describe the symptoms. Monitor for fever too. Too young for allergies.

Perhaps she has allergies to something airborn. Try using an air purifier. She might also have an allergy to something touching her face, perhaps your clothes detergent or perfume.

Hi H..
Well, my daughter did the same thing. I took her to the doctor and told him I thought it was allergies (mold & pollen etc). He said a baby has to be exposed to mold & pollen for one whole season before they have an allergy to it. So, (and I'm dead serious here), he says "maybe she's just irritated by mold & pollen." Now, can you tell me where the big difference is??? LOL! Anyhow, I would guess your baby is having an "irritation" to mold/pollen. Nothin you can really do for it. Good luck!

Good morning H.
I am a grandmother of two boy's and two girl's. It sounds to me that she is having allergy's. Check with your pediatrician to be sure what is going on. k

Probably allergies, perhaps pinkeye. Either way, I would call the Dr, it has to uncomfortable for the baby!

My son was born the 15th of May and we just went to the doctors today. She said that he probably just has a cold, nothing to worry about. The 'booger sucker' only works with saline (which i didn't know as i tried to get things out as well and nothing was coming out). He is too young for allergies so she ruled that out. She said that, as long as there was no fever above 100.4 and he is eating and sleeping, there was nothing to worry about. Fussiness is to be expected though because babies would prefer to breath out of their noses instead of their mouths and obviously, it does make eating and sleeping more difficult.
She said to just keep washing our hands as to not transmit any germs and for my daughter (almost 3) to stick to playing with his feet. (Silly me, i told her she could touch his hands and feet not even thinking about his hands going to his face.)
Good luck and Congratulations!

Sounds like a mild alergic reaction to me, although this time of year it could be hay fever or local allergies also. If there is a fever, it may be something else, just keep an eye on it. Your husband is good to be careful, better to err
on the safe side.

She may have a blocked tear duct. I have a 4 month old who struggled with this after she was around 3-4 weeks. She just recently got over it. It started with a stuffy nose and sneezing and later she had a lot of gunk on her eyes, but her eyeballs were clear. The Dr. said it is pretty common and if it doesn't clear up after she turns 6 months, we may have to look at her having a procedure. It is all cleared up now, thank goodness. I would just ask the Dr at her 1 month appointment. She could also have allergies, but usually they don't show their face this early.
