3 Old Boy Stinky Feet

Oh, help me. My 3 year old has the smelliest feet I've ever come in contact with. Not smelly during socks & shoes time, but now that we're in sandals only (we live in Vegas), his feet make me gag. Any suggestions for a strong willed 3 year old? How often should I replace his sandals? I'll take any tips/suggestions/ideas you can give me. I've tried washing his sandals and the smell hasn't gone anywhere.

What can I do next?

Make sure he wears only cotton or leather sandals. That man-made material stuff will stink a kid's feet up quick!

I''l bet you his sandals are made from something other than leather?
Don't buy man-made material shoes for him.
You shouldn't have to replace his sandals until he outgrows them.

You need to make sure you are buying breathable materials. I had stinky feet issues and part of it was the materials. Wash his feet with baking soda nightly as well, just add some to the bath water. Sandals SHOULD last the whole summer - again make sure you are getting better quality - not cheapy plasticy non breathable sandals that will only make him sweat more causing the stank!

if he will let you soak his feet in warm tea for at least a week once a day that should take care of the problem

You'd think sandals would mean less smell because there's more air getting to the feet. It seems kind of odd that he would have the smelly feet in sandals but not in socks and closed shoes. That makes it seem like the sandals are the issue, not his feet, so I would throw out current ones and get new ones; washing won't do it. Absolutely ensure the sandals are not made of anything vinyl, plastic or otherwise fake, especially not the horrid plastic "Crocs" family of shoes, which supposedly have "air holes" but which are just non-breathable plastic. Go with real leather, nothing vinyl or imitation. Air the new ones well and use a powder like Gold Bond on the sandals; leave it on overnight; and shake and brush it off well the next day (or just use baking soda the same way). You will have some white residue but it may be worth it. Do double check though, to see if it's also his feet. Look at today's posting about the teenager with stinky feet and keep those posts' ideas in mind if your son's feet seem to be the issue rather than the sandals.

also, have you tried using athlete's foot spray... maybe he could use a little... and I do agree with the advice below.... those plastic shoes (crocs) or other artificial material don't allow the feet to breathe....

People's feet usually stink due to synthetic materials. We buy Rainbows - the flip flop brand. The are made of leather and our feet never smell. That black foam stuff used lately for sandals always make our feet stink. Also, socks with anything but 100% cotton, also cause tons of odor. You get what you pay for.
