My 3 mo old seems to be teething. He is fussy and chews on everything. His blankie, his fists, etc. But will not chew on a teether, i have tried even putting it in the freezer. I went to the store today to get baby oragel and the package says for 4 month and older. Any advice on what to do?

What can I do next?

teething tablet and a leather belt. when my son was teething at that age I had to hold the teething ring for him. they have toys he can use for a teether. key chains are great if they are hard plastic.

Check with your doctor how much infant tylenol to give him (use only when he is in very bad discomfort, or if he is very upset and it is right before bedtime– it will help him sleep).

Rub his gums with your finger. Let him chew on your finger, too; my son loved. I also cracked a little and let him chew on his pacifier during the day, not just at nap or bed time. I only did this if he was particularly fussy and chewing ferociously. No, this did not make him more dependent upon the pacifier.

Other than that, just hang in there, Mom. Children teething do not get better as they get older. Once the tooth breaks through things will get better, until the next tooth starts coming down.

It will be okay! God bless!!

If you can, rub around on his gums, see if that helps. sometimes you can feel where it's swollen and a little massage can help. My daughter loved gumming ice cubes. We got this thing at Target, Munchkin brand, that looked like a ring pop, only it had a mesh bag on it, so she could hold it and chew around but not swallow the whole ice cube.

Another thing, if he likes chewing on a blankey, is to get a clean towel, wet a corner of it and freeze it, then give him that to chew on.

There are all natural teething tablets that will help. You can find them at most drug stores..

FYI, the order his teeth come in, is usually the same order they will fall out..

Try taking a washcloth, wetting it, then putting it in a ziplock baggie in the freezer until it's really cold. Then let him chew on the cloth(take it out of the baggie before giving it to him.)

Another thing that works well is the old fashioned clothes pins, the round ones with no moving parts. They can be hard to find, but work straight out of the package.

Sometimes just dipping the teether in a little applesauce or a favorite food will get them chewing on it. Hope one of these works for you.

Hi!
Hyland's Teething tablets worked wonders for my DD who started teething at 3 months too! They dissolve very quickly under the tongue so I never worried about her choking on them....
ask your ped if you have any questions :)

Hi A.,
I am responding to this very late so your son's teeth have probably already come through. But, he will teethe many times again so I thought I would pass this tip along. My kids didn't care for a teething ring either, but I put water in one of their bottles, put the cap on the bottle and then froze it upside down in the freezer. They seem to enjoy it a lot more and it helped get fluids inside them too. Hope that helps! Good luck!

My son wouldn't take a teether either :) I actually gave him beef jerky to chew on. The pediatrician was ok with it- they sell the little box of 6 flat sticks for like a dollar, up by the check outs in most places- I would just give my son one he would chew on it til it got soggy and we would throw it out.

My grandmother told me to wet a washrag(clean), put it in a baggie in the freezer for 15 min. Take it out of the freezer and bag and let the baby chew on it. My ittle one really seemed to like the cold sensation and texture of the rag.

frozen wash cloths work well. RE: Oragel - we used it for our girls and the gel ran down the bottle and ruined the top of their white (Pottery barn) book shelf. If you use that make sure you put it on top of a washcloth or salad plate b/c NOTHING gets the orange/brown circles out!

Honestly, the best thing that worked for my kids was the Hylands Teething tablets. They are completely safe and melt in their mouth under the tongue so there is no choking, they are also small enough that if they did swallow them they wouldn't choke. They are almost instant and are completely homeopathic.

My son enjoys chewing on the teething bling necklace. He won't take any other teether. The only time he chews on a washrag is bath time...apparently bath water tastes better

Mine started at 3 months - he's 4 months now... He likes the pacis now but didn't used to. We'd dip our fingers in ice water and let him chew on them while we tried to massage the sore area. Good luck.

Hi there, I had this same problem with my six month old daughter. I gave her a very small amount of baby oragel. Have you tried to rub your finger on his gums back and forth? He may like the pressure from that or even try to freeze a clean washcloth and let him chew on that. I know how much it stinks though with the teether, we have at least ten of them and haven't been used. Have you maybe tried even holding the teether for him? It may be a pain but may work also. Good luck momma!

I really liked the Hyland's teething tablets as well for both of my kids...it's natural, so it really worked great during the day, and we used Tylenol if needed at night.

The wet washcloth really helped both my kids during teething. We didn't even have to put it in the freezer...we just put it in the fridge. Once they were older (like 6-9 months), they liked the teething rings.
