When I introduce 2nd foods to my 7 1/2 month old son, do I have to introduce them one every 7 days to test for allergies? I did that with his first foods and no allergies apparent. and when did you start juice with your kids? what brand did you use? did you dilute it with water?

What can I do next?

I just have to add another vote- no juice! It's just sugar and vitamin C...and if you're giving fresh fruits he will already get plenty of both. Juice is not required at any age. I let my son have juice only when he is sick and even then I dilute it with water.

Hi,
All or most of the 2nd foods are the same as the 1st foods, just bigger amounts. So, you should not have introduce them the same way as you did with the 1st foods. You only need to do that with something new. As for juice, babies do not need juice. Formula and water is all they need. With my 1st baby, I would offer water in a sippy cup with his meals and formula in between. I also plan to do with my 5mo old. This also made the transition from bottles to sippy cups at 12/13 mo. really easy with my son. I didn't start giving my son juice until he was close to 2 yrs old and then it was diluted 1/2 to 1/3 with water. My dr always stressed that kids very easily get used to the sweetness of juice and then they refuse their formula/milk/water and you don't want that. So, I would recommend that you don't give juice. They just don't need it. They are getting all of their nutrients from their other food and formula.

At 7 1/2 months, if he hasn't had any adverse reaction to foods, you shouldn't have to wait.
I don't give my babies juice. I usually wait until they're toddlers and then dilute it. I don't stick to a specific brand, but make sure it's 100% juice.

I agree with the others. Babies don't need juice. It gives them a sweet tooth for sugary drinks that they don't need and has very little nutrition. My kids only drink water and milk with an occasional juice box as a treat. they are 4 and 7 years old.

For new foods, the "experts" recommend introducing waiting 3 days between each one. Juice - I agree with Miranda - nutrition-wise, babies only need milk & water! But if you do choose to do juice, definitely dilute it with water!

When I introduced second foods to my daughter, she had already tried all of the ingredients so I knew she wasn't allergic. If there was a flavor that she hadn't tried one of the ingredients, I just watched her a little more closely, but I didn't do them seperately for a week. When I started introducing juice, I used the Gerber toddler juice and diluted it half and half with water. I don't think the juice brand really makes a difference as long as it is 100% juice. I would recommend diluting it with water until she is about two. Juices are good but they have lots of natural sugars which aren't so great.

I would NOT give your baby juice. They don't need it! Just give him water in a sippy cup instead of juice.

I gave the same food for about four feedings then changed. I also gave a fruit and a veggie at the same time (fruit for breakfast, fruit and veggie lunch, veggie supper) that way they can have a variety yet if there is a reaction to anything you just take one of them away and see if it is that. On the juice, I tend to stick to water in a sippy cup but have used 100% juice (don't waste your money on the "baby" brand juices) and water it down at least half if not more so they get use to it. Good brand for the juice are Welchs or Juicy Juice just make sure to put it in a sippy cup not bottle (bottle should be for milk only).
