Does anyone have any experience or advice regarding tantrums in the middle of the night during sleep? Our daughter will literally wake up in the night, out of a dead sleep and yell "NO" multiple times and start kicking us!!!!!!!!

What can I do next?

Have you researched Night Terrors?

Here's some information from the American Academy of Pediatrics that explains it.

Our daughter has had them since she was an infant (she's 23 months now and occasionally still has them). They're most common when they get a little older.

I have not experienced this, but it might be night terrors.

Hi K.... my daughter did the same thing when she was around 21/2 - 3 years old..my doctor suggested that she was having what he called night terrors.. and that it would eventually pass... she really wasn't even awake.. I know it is tough but it will pass...but just in case seek the advice of your doctor to make sure there is no underlying causes... good luck and God bless..:)

My daughter has had these episodes anywhere from yelling NO to crying in her sleep. When I try to hold her or talk to her, she doesn't even really seem to know I'm there so I just tell her I'm there and that it will be okay and she'll usually go back to sleep. I think it's night terrors too. I don't use the word 'nightmares' with her because I don't want to put it into her head and also, she never seems to remember (or talk about them) in the morning.

She may be having night terrors. It's kind of like sleep walking for infants. When she is screaming, does she look as though she is still sleeping? If that is the case and she seems to get worse if you touch her, then its probably night terrors. When my daughter has them she will scream for a good 20-30 mins if I don't touch her and let her cry it out. But it gets worse if I try to touch her to comfort her. She begins thrashing and fighting and will cry for a lot longer. But that's if its a night terror. Sometimes she has just woken up screaming and when I walk in the room she is awake and responds to me being there so then I know its not a night terror and I can pick her up and comfort her. Usually if I give her water and rock her back to sleep I'm back in my bed within 45 mins. There is info out there about night terrors just Google it. I hope this helped. I know its scary when they wake up like that.

Sounds like "night terrors."
It is developmental based, and arises at certain ages. And is normal.

Look it up online.

That is a night terror. Sometimes nightmares can do that as well. She most likely isn't even aware of it. Do your best to make sure she doesn't hurt herself and don't attempt to wake her. She will stop and go back to (or stay asleep). I know it is scary, but children go through this. GOOD LUCK!
