Hi mamas.. I am having a little issue and not sure how to deal with it..

First of all let me say my daughter is 22 months old and weighs anywhere between 27&30 lbs.. at her 18 month check she was 26 lbs and dr told me that was in the 70th percentile and thought she looked good..

We've had her in 2T/24 month clothes for a few months.. our scale at home says shes still around the same weight as her 18 month check (varies depending on day but i haven't seen her over 28).. anyways, she's starting to complain that 2T clothes are too tight and bother her.. which is bigger 2T or 24 month? Is there a difference? I am not wanting to get her 3T yet because I think those would still be big (i've held up some next to her and they just look big).. but yet it is seeming like i'm having a harder time finding clothes that fit her right now..

Thanks :)

What can I do next?

My understanding is that 24 month is wider to accomodate a more chubby baby form, and the 2T is a bit longer to accomodate a toddler that is starting to grow taller and leaner. My advice however is to buy 3T now. It will fit her much longer and almost all the pants come with adjustable waist bands.

2T is a little bit wider and longer than 24m. If she will wear dresses go that direction in 3T. They won't be that much longer on her and will get shorter as she grows.

3ts (all toddler sizes actually) have adjustable wasts and jeans can be rolled up.

Generally, 2T sizing is a bit bigger than 24 months, but not a whole lot. I've found that American sizing in kids, womens, mens and boys all varies anyway based on the manufacturer. And Old Navy? My goodness, every time I pick up the same garment in the same size and hold them up together, many times one is actually bigger in the waist, etc. So you may find some smaller 3Ts out there that will do the trick.

2ts are the same in the waste as 24 months just longer in the legs. i would try a 3t. take her to walmart or something and try them on.

Don't know if it has changed since my kids were little but 2T were smaller in the waist and bottom. They also didn't have the snaps. The idea was at two they would be potty trained so no need to accommodate the diaper.

The reason for the difference between 24 mos and 2T is that the 2T is designed for the potty trained toddler. Therefore the 24 mos item has more room in the diaper area. I do think that the 2T may be a smidgen taller also.

I too recommend that you try the 3T size on her. Yes, they'll be a little big but weren't the 2Ts a little big at the beginning too. It's common for toddlers clothes to be too big thus allowing them to grow into their clothes.

Most companies only have one or the other. I honestly can't think of a time when I saw both sizes offered fort the same outfit. I think they're really actually the same thing (at least most of the time).

I think you're going to have to bite the bullet and get her some 3T's. They might be a bit big on her at first, but I bet it doesn't take long for her to grow into them.

She will grow but always try the clothes on her. It's warming up so shorts and tee's will be fine. By the time Fall weather comes around she'll be in a 3 really well.

24 mos is smaller, it is intended for wearing from about 18-24 mos.
2T should fit the typical American child from 2 until 3 yrs old.
(I say this while holding up clothes of 24 mos, 2T & 3T all in front of me, because I have kids wearing all those sizes right now.)

You might need to be more selective about which brands you choose. We find that things like Carter's shrink quite a bit, but if I pony up the money the Gymboree clothes usually stay true to size and last my kids longer.

Jumping Bean clothes (from JC Penney) are great for size issues! I got a bunch of clothes from there for my 2yo DD's birthday. The shorts and pants have elastic in them. They have a hidden button so you can pull it tight or loosen it up. :) I have had a hard time finding other brands with the same feature.

So many pants/shorts have adjustable waist these days, I imagine there would be no harm in going to a 3T for her in those, especially shorts!

~I always thought 2T was bigger than 24mos...but what another poster said about 24mos being roomier in the bum area to take in consideration of a diaper makes sense too!

From her weight I would guess that she is ready for 3T's. If the pants are too long, buy leggings so she won't trip or jeans that can be rolled up. Since summer is here, she may also be more comfortable in dresses.

24 month and 2T clothes are basically the same size, with 24 months wider in the seat for diapers. I have found very little difference except that 2T fits slimmer children better and 24 months works better for rounder tummies.

24month's are usually a bit bigger around the butt area to give room for diapers. 2t fit's better if your child is using underwear. the waist size is usually about the same depending on the brand. I know that when I buy pant's from wal-mart they fit my kid's perfect and if I try to buy clothes at family dollar they are extremely huge... If the 2t's are to big you should try going up to a 3t.. or stick with elastic type pant's.. that seem's to be the most comfortable for her..
