23 Month Old with Virus

Hi Mommy's - my daughter had a horrible virus starting friday with vomiting, fever and then sunday, monday she had diahrea. I have had her on the BRAT diet all weekend, gatorade, pedialyte and water. Her fluid intake is great. As of today she has not had diahrea or any bowel movement for that matter. Do you think I could give her something bland to eat outside of the BRAT diet? any suggestions for what something bland could be?

PS - I have not taken her to the doctor, but had talked to them this past weekend. She's basically fine now i'm just waiting for a BM and wondering what bland food to start with.

What can I do next?

Try some pasta, some plain roasted chicken or potatoes. Hope she's fully recovered!

Bananas... it is a 'binding' food, and full of nutrients.
Oh sorry, BRAT is bananas. LOL
Oh also yogurt is considered BRAT, too.

have you taken her to the Doctor?

i usually let the kids go 24 hrs without loose stools before i give something else. then i give a regular meal, for example chicken with rice

I would give her some yogurt that would be good on the digestive system. If you have activia or yo baby it is good and has active cultures in it. I would be careful with milk for another day. Some plain pasta, chicken noodle soup, cheerios, carrots, any other fruit that is not acidic. I had the same virus and it was awful. I am glad she is feeling better.

plain pasta, pastina was always our families sick food

If she has not vomited or had a lose stool in 24 hours I would feel ok about trying something outside of the BRAT diet, but I would still keep it on the mild side. Maybe some pancakes or waffles, grilled cheese with very little butter, stuff like that. My kids always take a few days to pass a BM after they have cleaned themselves out with a virus. I would just stay away from milk and full strength juice or anything acidic. I have had a child throw again after a few days of being ok after a virus due to them eating something too heavy too soon. I hope she's feeling better.
